Tough to find decent old style valve covers and not break the bank these days! I am always looking for good looking, solid aluminum valve covers for projects I own. Both of my hotrods have SBC engines, and I found pretty ugly finned aluminum valve covers for under $50 for them, and just worked on them with various finer grit sandpapers and then buffed them on my bench grinder with a buffing wheel and rouge. Not overly polished as I'm too lazy to go that far. I think both of these are made by the same maker, but one has "Mr Gasket" emblems, and the other had no emblems.

Found this one in the Arco desert. Simply blasted & shot with really old bomb can enamel to preserve. HPIM4940.JPG

  5. Danny,
In a museum some place I saw a M/T motor that had fabbed rocker covers that resembled these. The remined me of hay stacks. I have a problem covering my valve train because of the relocated and canted valves. I am thinking of fabbing some along these lines only tall enough to clear my valve train.

HRP....What you did to the "Powered By Ford" valve covers on your engine is what I would call understated elegance. It looks great, get's noticed but isn't gaudy. I'm not slamming any other contributions, but none of the others posted have the cl***y look yours have!

They are new and USA made by Spotlite Kustom Accessories.

All I did was paint them with rattle can engine enamel.

    I can see that. :)

  21. no that would be "Built Ford Tuff with Chebby Stuff" LOL

Actually I do not know the difference in 'em :oops: but the FoMoCo rocker covers do come both ways. Some say Powered by Ford and some say Power by Ford. I think it a year difference thing maybe. Never the less I have seen them both ways and both ways with the Ford Motor Company stuff cast on the inside.

You are supposed to use the hold downs from a Corvair not the stock originals.

Um.....different valve covers. Discussion would be pointless.

But, on a complimentary note, your engine in post #50 is very clean and neatly done.

    I would run these...[IMG]

  25. JC Whittney used to sell those. They would work really good in a motor that you never start. LOL

Both my grandfather and I are ****ers for finned valve covers. Got them on all out HAMB friendly stuff. My two 68 O/T's have factory chrome stamped plain valve covers. 1238046_706769566003467_1662234087_n.jpg 547080_511688748844884_677327791_n.jpg 21741321_1998586396821771_6096721689110894116_o.jpg 11807738_708355709293848_908801816563569475_o.jpg

I'm wondering if the confusion isn't caused by aftermarket valve covers vs OEMs. Not a Ford expert, so just guessing.
