So I'm almost out of the FNG club, but the learning curve is vertical now. I have a 59 Ford Fairlane (352 interceptor 300 hp) and my nieghbor who was a mechanic for Ford for 30 yrs is coming over to teach me how to do a valve grind job. Question: What is the purpose of a Valve Grind Job?

To repair the valve to valve seat surfaces. Your friend can explain and show you as he helps you out.

  4. The purpose of This valve job is for your cool neighbor with 30 years of ford experience to show you something about cars and help spread his automotive knowledge to you. I think he sounds pretty cool. Oh yeah it'll make your 59 purr like a kitten too >>>>.

basically a valve job is where you grind the valves to achieve a new finish, and the same thing with the seats in order for the valves and seats to properly seal against each other. if they dont seal you wont have good compression.
