I've noticed a few questions about adjusting valves here lately. Thought I'd post a trick the Ol' Man showed me when I was a kid. I had to go out to a motor and point and count 'cause I couldn't remember the numbers and didn't have them written down anywhere. It will work on Small Block Chevy, big block MOPAR or any motor that fires 18436572. If you do it this way you can do it in two full revolutions of the motor. Mark Harmonic balancer @ 90* intervals from TDC TDC Fireing #1 is your starting point. Turn the crank clockwise, if that's the way it turns when its running. IN. EX. TDC#1 firing, set #2 #8 rotate 90*, set #1 #4 rotate 90*, set #8 #3 rotate 90*, set #4 #6 rotate 90*, set #3 #5 rotate 90*, set #6 #7 rotate 90*, set #5 #2 rotate 90*, set #7 #1 You solid lifter guys will have to check your cam card for valve lash. On hydraulics I run 'em a little loose (don't mind the clatter and love the revs) so I won't tell you how to set 'em. just the proper order. It takes the guess work out of it. Get dirty.
