valve lift

    I've got a sbc with flattop pistons.How much valve lift can i have at the cam before clearance needs to be checked--has1.5 rockers

    most say anything over .500 lift. if the heads are off I always check it

    It will vary if you have solid or hydraulic lifters, has the block been decked? Best to pull a head and put a piece of soft solder or modeling clay on the piston and roll the engine over through on complete revolution and measure the results.

    The cam lift is not as important as the duration, the overall duration affects the P/V much more than the actual lift!!

    You need to post the cam you have with exact numbers!
