I am running reversed wheels and wheel covers on my 52. I can't get at the valve stem without taking off the wheel cover, a real pain in the****. Is there an flexible extension out there that would enable me to have it come through the hole in the wheel cover so that I could check the pressure easier. B B
I know there are some hard plastic extensions and you can get longer rubber valve stems put into the rims. Maybe that will leave it flexible enough to make it to the hole in the cover? RASHY
Thanks Rashy, called em and they are sending some flexible 5" extensions, hopefull we will be able to make em work, we only need about 2" but if they are flexible enough it should work. Hard On, all of the tire shops around my little town only have access to the fixed extensions and are too lazy to try and find something else. Thanks Guys B B
We used to get chrome plated steel extensions that were about 1 1/2" or so long. Not so far back time-wise either. Seems I had a set of these about 5-6 years ago. They're straight and work pretty well. I note that the valve stems on my 2002 SuperCrew are fairly long and too flexy as well. Kind of a****** adding air. These are straight and about 1 1/4 - 1 1/2" long. I checked at the tire shop about a bolt in replacement - they are chrome - and they are available. Decided to leave it go until new tires are needed. Not sure if the bolt in valve stems come any longer, but I'd guess they do. One thing to keep in mind, you don't want the rubber part of the stem resting against the sharp sheet metal of the wheel cover hole. Seen a couple of these worn through with resultant air loss. (got your check - thanks)
Sorry about that last one - thought it was a tire site and not a mag article. Anyhoo, if the length would make it here's one more way out. Nice part is, it's rubber down low and chromed steel the rest of the way so you'd have some flexibility and abrasion resistance. Go here and click on the 2nd one down - long stem.
A traditional trick on reversed rims is to drill a hole (or leave original hole) on back side. This of course require major groveling and groping when adding air, but for sure gets it outta sight and away from your wheel covers.
Thanks Jay, I'll call those guys if this other thing don't work. Bruce, I remember doing that way back when also. The problem then is that there is the hole in the cover just staring at ya, plus the hassel that you mentioned with the grease and dirt and all. Looking for a simpler solution that doesn't involve so much crawling around by this OLD body that don't move as good as it used to . B B
we use these guys at work,,,, great pricing,,,order stems individually,,, really knowledgeable,,, http://www.pioneerwheel.com/ kisses
Glenn: Let me get the ones I have coming and see if they work. If so I'll get you a couple. HRBG: I called Pioneer in Mad City Wi. Very helpful as you said but the only thing they had in flexible was 8" which is too long. Thanks for the tip, put them in favorites as they have all kinds of neat***** and are real close. See ya at the 50'S. B B
