Does anyone know how much if any difference there is in mfgs valve stems. This pertains to flathead valves. Stainless steel to be more precise.

What is the qc problem? I realize that dimensions can be whack but op mentioned stems..Stems should be chrome plated and at times the grind marks are pretty rough so the stems should be sanded length ways with 400 [or 600] wet or dry to take the sharp edges off so as not to promote valve guide wear..

Jack I talked to Kyle & he talked to Dale & he talked to Neal & they came to the conclusion that they gave me the wrong springs. They will be replacing the valves & Isky springs. I haven't talked to Dale about my labor yet. The temps are 119 today so it ain't gonna be cheep.
Sorry that you are still having problems.

Seb I dropped a valve on a new expensive build. The machine shop is standing behind their mistake & sending me a new set of SS valves w/Isky springs. I was wondering about he fit in the guide as I don't have any equipment here. Gave it all away when I moved. Thought I was done doing this shit. Yeah you know the saying about doing your own thinkin.

Bob ,that sounds just like my conversations with them. Seb not all products or labor is equal, qc is not a guessing game. The shop is standing by mine also , the 2 bent valves, worn out guides, galled stems. enough said about the qc .

Getting to where poor qc and slipshod machine shop work is a universal problem. Very few automotive machine shops left unless you go to the high end, performance oriented ones whose prices are also high end.

Rhetorical Question: Has it really become almost cheaper to buy your own tools to do the work properly the first time, rather than to have to put-up with/trust the questionable crap that so many current shops seem so "proud" to turn out??? Either they "don't give a shit" or "don't have the skills" or have NO CONCEPT of in-house QUALITY CONTROL!! Never mind our re-work lost time dealing with their errors! I need to stop this RANT before I throw a rod!!
