Zinc and detergent are at odds.

I just spoke with the technician at Valvoline, the only change to vr1 racing oil is the packaging, still has 1400 ppm zinc

Pete, many moons ago (1970) the oil pressure was going down in my OP car. Bought some Valalene 40weight Racing oil, put it in my car, presto better oil pressure. Proud of myself , I drove the car back and forth to school, shortly it began drinking oil. ****! Tore it down for overhaul and found my oil rings and s****er rings full of ****. Rebuild went well, quizzed some knowledgeable people about what had happened, the told me “racing oil is for racing, not street”. When I asked why? They said most racing oils have No detergent, because the engine is not expected to live long enough to need it, and the detergent has a negative effect on the high pressure additives. Just my .02 and experience, I never use racing oils in a street engine now.

I take my news from creditable sources and not by word of mouth. Branding something fake without providing supporting details is merely a distraction to avoid accountability and believed by those not willing to ascertain the facts which is the easy/lazy way out. Hurts when it's right, doesn't it?

It wouldn't be Racing Oil without the zinc and phosphorous.

The problem with credible sources is credible by whom? What you consider credible may not be what you think it is. In this case I would like to know what source was used to determine if the statement :
"Not sure when but just realize Valvoline no longer has zinc in the vr 1 racing oil!"

Was in fact a credible source or just some hack with an agenda, like it or not a lot of the places some folks go to and claim as a "credible" source have an agenda and are anything but credible. I believe the idea that VR 1 has and as always has had ZDDP in it's formula is the correct one.

I personally never believe those word of mouth comments or take them as the bonifide truth until I do some checking on my own to determine what is credible and what is not. That's the truth and it doesn't hurt me at all. Others that are quick to accept a completely un verified account of anything on any subject are the guys going around spouting forth un found rumors. That truth hurts, don't it?
