Oh, and NO TRESP***ING signs, legally, cons***ute notification that the landowner forbids entry AND reserves ALL of the rights of ownership.

I've seen enough of these *****&moan threads. There are legal issues here, such as personal property ("abandoned" -- ha,ha! -- is an excuse of somebody who gets CAUGHT where they weren't allowed, often with PROPERTY they also weren't allowed to possess).

Many HAMBers understand that THEY search hard  to find buildable material. Often, they have to retain it somewhere, OUTSIDE.:( So what? It's their stuff. THEY HOPE to build something, some day, out of it.

NO, they didn't put it out there, free for the pickin'.

The problem is that most kids literally don't think about these things. The culprits probably live within a mile or so, for what its worth. The law tends to take things like this pretty lightly, unfortunately.
The wife had a second cousin around Talladega that lost a field full of cars he had recently bought due to the same ****. All windows broken, hoods, trunks, and roofs all smashed down, etc. He paid money for them in order to start a salvage business. That pretty much ended his dream before it even got started. I lost a car parked in my yard in town that way once. Kids threw baseballs at it and totaled it. Their parents didn't care either, and this was back about '64. There will always be losers a****st us.

I knew a vandal that used to let the chickens out of their corridor in the barn. He thought it was funny, I guess. He was a real punk, however, the elderly woman put a load of rock salt in his behind when she caught him. Funny thing is, he was predictable, she didn't even leave her back steps.

No police report was filed that I ever heard of. That was the good ole days, I guess.

The problem is that most kids literally don't think about these things. NO, THEY JUST DON'T GIVE A ****. The culprits probably live within a mile or so, for what its worth. The law tends to take things like this pretty lightly, unfortunately. THEY DON'T GIVE A ****, 'CAUSE THERE ARE "MORE IMPORATANT" ISSUES that'll get the judges reelected.

My comment: Now, THERE is a damn shame most HAMBers can appreciate. -- Jimi

Not true ...the parents aren't automatically responsible for the actions of their kids. You would have to prove some sort of gross negligence on the part of the parents to hold them responsible in any way.

The only problem with kickin' their ***, is I'm convinced that to be really effective it needs to arrive outa the blue, right while they're in the midst of their little spree ["terrible swift sword" as the song says], otherwise the connecting dots are completely lost on the little dimwits! Face it, if they were bright, or well raised either one, they wouldn't be doin' that in the first place.

I know of more than one case here where the parents were told they had to pay res***ution for plate gl*** windows and car window that their kids knocked out. I really don't know if they did or not. I can probably find out tomorrow.

I don't think anyone EVER cared about vandals.

In Highschool I had a 56 Bel Air that I had both in the parking lot and in shop cl***. It had the taillights smashed out several times in both. Final straw was in shop cl*** someone poured oil all over the car and smashed the tail lights again. AutoShop teacher was like so what? School Principal said school is not responsible for damage... UGH.

Took the car home and finished it without help. (quit shop too.. what was I gonna learn besides my stuff is trash!)

****s that it happened to you.

I have tresp***ers all the time in my yard. That walk through and throw trash down and sometimes steal/vandalize things. Caught 1.. Called police. Police said it was a CIVIL matter. ugh.

  12. My '50 Fleetline was a vandalism victim too, which is why the guy I got it from, got it in the first place. Every window in it was smashed out except, for some reason, the left door main gl***. It has a couple dings in the trim and tons of wrinkles in the hood and roof where it was dented by rocks. There's even a dent in the top of the dash. I managed to replace it all pretty fast at the time, except I have yet to find a left vent window - but I couldn't do that nearly as easy now as I did five years ago, I'd have to get super lucky that one turned up in the junkyard, the only spare I have is a back window.

I'm not looking forward to working the ripples out of the top; the hood, if I run into a decent one, I may just replace.

And I agree it's not a new problem, I remember being around 14 on a family vacation and seeing a bunch of kids right out of a movie - various ages from like 12 down to maybe 6 go by walking on the other side of the street, while we ate at some restaurant, then when we leave we have to go down and make a U-turn and here they are smashing the **** out of a decent '56 Chevy pickup behind a building. My parents didn't even want to stop to call the police. Gee, that's a great at***ude.

I had a car stashed in the historical society's building, too - it was a parts car that ran I hoped to find another car to stick the motor in. Kids busted in the place and they trashed that car in ways I couldn't believe. Roof caved in, trunk bent into a V-shape, fire extinguisher set off... if I'd have caught them in the act I literally would have killed the first one I got my hands on.

  13. Makes me think when I was a kid I did stupid stuff. Hard to believe it's the same person, in some ways. I hung with some dumb people, and had a chip on my shoulder, one which had me hangin' with deadbeats..

Our HAMB bro, 41Hemi, took his driver work-in-progress Fireflite 4-barrel to work with him in November 2009 and parked it in the lot at the golf course where he works. Here's what greeted him when he came out at day's end.

With or without signs, tresp***ing is illegal in my state. But, I know having signs does strengthen the position of the property owner.

    Glad they didn't attack pops
Seems like a lot of jerks are doing home invasions and beating the elderly.
