To be clear, I am not having vapor lock problems now, but I am at sea level. I will (hopefully going to 12,000 feet in Colorado in September and it’s likely to be toasty as well. The Flatfender guys that have been down these trails before advise to prepare ahead. Out of 25 Jeeps there is always one or more, I don’t want to be THAT GUY, the one that holds everybody up. I wont be able to test the diesel/kero think for a couple weeks because I am out of time for work for 2 more weeks (I still won’t be able to try it at altitude but I can experiment with it. I’m quite confident that the old low compression banger can handle 10% diesel (I think that it would run on straight kero if it was started with gasoline first). The Model T would run on Kero with its 4:1 compression. I met a guy once at a ski slope that ran his diesel on 10% gasoline in the winter. I didn’t think that that was a good idea but on the other hand back in the day big rigs used #1 diesel in the winter (#1 is halfway between the usual #2 and kerosene). I learn by mistakes, I would much prefer to learn from somebody else’s mistake instead of my own so I am going to prep ahead to the best of my ability.
the roadkill guys also remove the hood a lot of times my 57 Tbird would vapor lock on long trips at 90 and above I installed an electric pump that allows the fuel to pass when not operating I installed a 2 psi pressure switch at the carb to ground the relay for the electric pump that will automatically run the pump when the pressure drops below 2 psi I also installed a crash sensor for the power to the pump for safety the nice thing is after the car sits for long periods, when I go to start it, I turn the ignition on and the pump will prime the carb and shut off. Starts first try I added a led light to the power side of the pump so anytime it runs I can see it. many times at wot the light will flicker on if want details let me know
I had a severe fuel percolation problem with a Mopar 360 with electric fuel pump. Solved it with a phenolic spacer under the carburetor
