decided to drive my 55 olds to work this morning. dorve good for the first 6 or so miles. going over a bridge (which is up hill) the thing died. finally got it started , had to stay on the gas , put it in gear it sputters and then dies, this happened twice in 30 feet finally got it to the median. had to walk tthe rest of the way to work had it towed home. got home 10 hours later and it started right up. fuel line runs an inch above valve cover . got new fuel line and filter. any help is appreciated (olds 324ci., holley4160 600cfm, hydramatic) thanks

Vapor lock is usually heat related ie summer time or when engine is heavly loaded working hard. My first guess is fuel filter plugging up . Maybe water in fuel, ya just gas it up? But anyway a fuel supply issue rather than vapor lock.

Sounds like fuel pump or clogged filter - just had it happen to me on two different cars - no fuel pressure (have FP gauge) but runs, step on the gas and it leans out and dies. Fire her up again and back off and it runs again. Pull the fuel line from the carb and crank it briefly with the ignition key. If it sprays plenty of fuel it's likely the carb. If it doesn't spray, most likely filter or pump. My .02c

I had an old Olds that did the same exact thing, this was with the old gl*** bowl fuel pump. I replaced the pump and that fixed it. It would let me down at the damndest times too.
