Well, I figure I better get a build thread started.

My fabrication buddy got back to town last night. And we were talking about our cars. Fun twist of events. I told him I'd been looking and I've decided that I'm not gonna let him run this 292 he has...;) I asked him how many 235's he had laying around. He figures 6 or 8, but none of them run. I figure 2 grand to get an engine from laying on the ground to actually running. I didn't want to spend that, he didn't either. Not that either one of can't afford it. It's just funner to REALLY think it out. I don't want to throw money, I want to be clever, that's half the fun. Swinging a good deal on a runner, or something like that.

He says what about a flathead? I said I talked to our other buddy, I think it's to much money. He says... we'll maybe I've got a kick *** runner I've been hiding from ya... ...lol... What a hold out piece of ****... :D

So this first one will be a flathead.

Talk is cheap. Let's see what happens.

Who said we hadn't started? :)

I was gonna wait and post the whole build thread when we were done. See the other m***ively long thread with the same ***le, for the rationale.

No need to post in this thread. Let it sink to the bottom and it'll surface again when we post some pics. :)

before you edited your reply, you stated

no one, i mean NO one is going to "h***le" you for building "wrong" IF you stay within the rules... rules that are pretty simple. it dont need to look like another car. it just needs to be within the rules. rules are meant to be kept, but remember, these are WIDE open to interpretation.

Well, at least we cleared that up. :D Feel free to PM me if you feel it's important to discuss it further.

I'm cool, we can leave the thread alone until I post pics of a finished car. Our first track day events are the first of June 2009.

Hmm, you could be right. We should get the mods to delete this. I'll post when it's done. Makes sense. I'm with ya.

Vectorsolid, not to be nit picky, but the idea is to have a "BUILD" thread and post pictures as you build the car.

The concept is to give inspiration and imagination to other builders and wanna be builders and in doing so perhaps help "spread the word" as you like to say.

Having a group of builds posted in progress offers the possibility to someone thinking about building one of these things of being able to look at the various ways other folks have approached the build and they can mix and match the best features from each build, (in their opinion), to design their own. That seems to be what you are trying to do, so why not help the rest of the "new kids" to the sport with some construction shots of your own?:p

We aren't here to act as critics, though it's a good chance you will pick up some comments along the way, but I think you will find that we all have our own concepts of what we want our HA/GRs to be, and if you study the collective bunch of build posts here you'll see that there are many different designs and interpretations of how to make these cars what we want them to be.

The main idea of this cl*** is to have a chance of building and racing cars like it used to be done.......For FUN, which is why most of us have gravitated here.

As my flight instructor told me many years ago, "if ya ain't having fun, what the hell are ya doing this for?":D

Share the build not the finished product. It ain't like we're doing it for a show, and there aren't any corporate secrets that you need to worry about someone stealing.

All of the above is just my feelings, but I think most of us here feel the same p***ion for this cl***, hell there are a lot of easier ways to go drag racing than building a car for a cl*** that doesn't fit in with the flow of the modern ideas. If I wanted to go this slow in the quarter mile I could just go out and buy an old stocker and run brackets. What the heck, I could run my '64 and go quicker.

And I will. And it will be easier to follow. I take lot's of pics, and I don't think it's up for debate how much I can type. :D

Plus I think "fiddy" is stalking me. Seriously, I don't need a school yard bully flipping me **** every time I post. He's dogging me in 3 or 4 different threads. Fiddy, seriously, if you got something to say to me, spit it out. But don't dog every comment I make.

With over 6500 posts, you should be an amb***ador to this forum.

So far about 2 outta 10 guys have been a little "hard to get along with". So here's where we're at. I post up what we have done now... along with a "see, and I told ya so", based on getting called out by fiddyfour and ne**ussian. Thereby making me cave to their schoolyard mentality. OR, I post an entire "useful" build thread when we get it done. And save myself a LOT of personal aggrivation.

Would free up a lot of fiddy's time following me around and treating me poorly in every thread.

stalking? no. not my style. but seeing as how you're asking outright for my opinion... i think you're a flash in the pan, and that like bad gas, you'll p*** soon enough and move on to the next "rat rod" project, because thats what i think you want to accomplish with your build. no i dont mean poorly built, or ****ty work that is going to hurt someone, but the mentality of "hey, check me out i have something completely different and cool, so look at me cause i must be cool too.

i hope, honestly that i'm wrong, but thus far thats about all i see from you. . .

my only wish is once you get your race car built you dont make an *** of us all representing something i, and others i have spoken to feel you know little to nothing about.

mamma fiddy has read a few of your posts, and her question to me was "who the hell is he building the thing for, himself or the idea that he needs to make a crowd happy with a loud no traction smoky car"

poorly? hardly. ask around. if i wanted to get under your skin (which, from your post here it seems i have without trying) i would, and in short order. i dont mince words and one thing you'll never be wondering is "whats really on Fiddy's mind" again, ask around. i been pretty friggin civil and level with you.

    Whoah there nellie. Stalking???

Everything I post that isn't a qustion or agreement is in fun. I'm not puting you down (you might re-read what I posted in those other threads).

I only pointed out the due date as you yourself REQUESTED that EVERYONE on the board 'flip you some serious ****' if you hadn't posted pictures within a week. Yes I see you edited that out, not quite two hours after I posted (that your original deadline for yourself to have meanigfull progress do***ented with pictures was tomorrow).

If you didn't want that kind of razzing, don't post a request for it. As I for one would not have posted like I did if you had posted something like 'and I should have pics up in about a week'.

Oh, the mods here don't usually delte threads. They might close it for you, if you PM them (they're awfull bussy, no really they are, you'd be amased how hard they have to work, just to keep the spammers out, and my hat's off to them for their efforts).

I wish you luck, hope the build goes well, as my sig says "it's supposed to be fun".

Oh and from what I've seen Fiddy's being civil (perhaps I missed something?).

(Firstly, remember, I type VERY quickly. So this didn't take long. Tends to look like a rant to people that can't type quickly.)

Cool. Now I know where you stand. Now when you're doggin' my thoughts, I'll know where it's coming from.

I'd be willing to debate that "check me out" concept. I'm the only guy I know that doesn't take his stuff to car shows (I'm sure there are others, but how would ya know?) If I do get con'd into showing stuff it's a one time deal. My brother-in-law is in charge of a show every year... My wife makes me show something because it's family. I've shown about 1/2 of what I own, and never more than once. I built it for me. If it makes people happy, that's awesome! But show's don't interest me anymore. But showing people that can make my stuff better (before and during the build) interests me. Not afterwards at a show when it's done.

I've got a bunch of stuff on youtube. Mostly for me and my buds to review or p*** around. I turn the comments off on 90% of it. I don't care what people have to say about it, or I'd leave it on.

Now racing, that's different. If something I like to do makes other people happy, AND I enjoy it... that's a win-win. I don't need a bolwing trophy or $50 in cash at the end of the day to walk away from the track to have a good time.

The ONLY reason I wanted to do a build thread is because I asked about 150 questions. A build thread (to me) is the way you pay back a forum community for tolerating your stupid and obvious (to them) questions. You ask a pile of questions, you better be there to offer something to help the community later on. An I mean the community as a whole, not fiddyfour who already knows it. It's for the others that don't.

I'm seriously okay with not showing the build. I'm not doing it for attention (particularly now if I don't do the build thread until the car is done), I don't need my hand held for moral support. BUT, there are a LOT of people (myself included) that enjoy a build thread. It's a way of contributing, and people get ideas from them. Just like pictures. How many of us here actually had a drivers license in 1948-1950? There's gonna be a few But you'd be 74-75 years old.

For the majority of us, it's nothing we did, it's something we watched later or read about in magazines. I need pictures to make this look correct, or it's going to end up what I "feel" is right. I looked at it in awe and dug it. Never occurred to me to look at it hard enough to know what axle something was from. At the time, I wasn't building one or trying to point myself down a similar path. Similar, not exactly same, path.

I apologize for being to enthusiastic for you. I like to build stuff, and that's where we are.

And really, I apologize to the forum as a whole. I'm just a car guy building stuff. And having a blast. I'm not asking questions because I'm bored. :) I want to make something. And when I'm done, I had kind of been thinking it would be fun to bring it out to where you guys are and have fun with it there too. But to do that, I need to build a similar car. And with rules like "Spirit and era" tossed in as nearly un-definable, or meaning different things to different people, there is a chance I'll build it wrong and not get to play with the others... I don't want that. Hence the questions that seem to drive you personally nuts. ;)
