What are the differences between the Vega and the Corvair boxes? I'm building a 29 coupe with 283 and auto ******. Full fendered and chopped 4 1?2 n. I'm using cross steer and want a quick and easy turning car without power steer or rack and pinion. Which would you use and how does the ratios differ? higher the number, less or more turns lock to lock? I see adds for 15:1, 16:1, 20:1, 20.9:1, and 22:1

    Thanks for any info

vega for cross steer. Reversed Corvair used mostly on T bucket side steer.

Definitely a vega box for cross steer. A 15:1 box is less turns lock to lock than a 20:1 box. A 15:1 box requires more steering effort than a 20:1 box.

Corvair is too light duty for anything more than a very light T-bucket type car..

Can anyone tell me where to get the 15 or 16 to 1 ratio vega box. I believe my stock vega is 20:1 and bothersome to me.

    Thanks

I find Corvairs easier to find. Im never really looking for steering boxes, but buy them when I find them at swaps. I have 1 Vega box on hand, and probably 40 corvairs :D

+1, the only thing that they have really been used on hot rod wise with some degree of success is T buckets that have the same or less weight on the front wheels as the original Corvairs did.
