As usual, I've carried the ball as far as I can and need some ***istance. Bottomline: where is the Return Line from the Vega Power Steering Box connect to the Power Steering Pump... if at all??
The pressure port on the pump goes to the pressure side of the steering box. The return side of the steering box goes to the return side of the pump. 2 hoses. A high pressure hose (pressure side) and a low pressure hose (return side). Super simple. Not familiar with that pump but every power steering pump is the same.
what weird kind of pump is that? If you post some more pictures of it, from different angles, we might be able to help you find it. But in any case, it would be a fitting that just dumps into the reservoir. On a normal OEM pump, there's a 3/8" ****** that the return hose fits over.
You’d have to show us better photos of the power steering pump. As @squirrel and I both mentioned, does not look like any power steering pump that we have ever seen.
It looks like a billet Ford pump like this one: https://www.cvfracing.com/billet-ford-power-steering-pump-with-reservoir/ If it is that pump, the bottom rear fitting is to the reservoir. Here is the case without the pump.
Nice work @snoc653 So @Douglas R It looks like you mistakenly (?) are using the pressure side port for a bracket or tensioner. That rear threaded part you show in your first picture that you have attached a bracket to is actually the pressure port. Also, in your photo, you have the “PRESSURE” port labeled as “supply” which is misleading. You really need to be very careful with your plumbing, and your terminologies. It is not input, output, supply and return. It is pressure side and return side. The pressure side of a power steering system is upwards of 1200 psi and higher when the steering is locked. It requires a dedicated hydraulic pressure hose capable of those pressures. The return line has no pressure on it. It can be a standard rubber power steering hose with a hose clamp.
that's the one! Damn, just had taken several pics to post and you've beaten me to the punch. Thanks for setting me straight guys.
Thanks Badshifter, The Learning Curve is steep..... But, Learning a Lot. Greatly appreciate you guys setting me straight.
Mounting the accessories can be a royal pain. Keeping the belts straight and the pulleys aligned can take hours of trial and error as well as shims or filing to get it right. But doing it right saves on bearings, belts and water pumps. And that is before you even get to the how tight is too much or not enough issue. Stay with it and you’ll have it together before you know it.
