What's the difference between a Vega box and a Vega cross steer box? Will the cross steer box work on my HenryJ? I need the narrow box to fit the narrow space available without cutting into the frame. Thanks

you can put the pitman arm on either way, it has an index every 90 degrees.

Thanks for the info. Then would the HJ be considered to be cross steering? The track rod goes from the pitman arm directly to the right side spindle arm and the left side is coming off the track arm(to the left of the trany in the pic) to the left side spindle arm. Please substitute the correct terms.

  5. This is a typical cross steer set-up with a Vega box.( On my 29 Roadster ) The Vega would be a good choice for your car, very easy to install and work very well.

Thanks. I want to retain the stock HJ system from the pitman arm onward as the location clears the oil pan as is. It also save buying/ fabing more parts, do you think that the stock system will work? Henry

  7. So you just want to use the Vega box ? Without seeing how your box mounts it's hard to say. Does it mount to the inside of the frame rail ? More pics would help alot.

Finally got some pic's of the area. The Hj has a tab welded onto the frame for the lower steering box to bolt to. There is no room for an adapter so I would drill through the frame and also weld on any tab needed. Thanks, Henry

...if you run bolts thru the frame, make sure you install tubes so you don't crush the frame.

Hi, thanks for the pic. What tie rod did you use for the pitman arm, I will use a stock HJ tierod at the wheel? Thanks, Henry.
Rusty, on my 57 I made through bungs welded both side for whatever I mounted to the frame.
