I would like to change from regular air cleaners on a 3x2 setup, over to velocity stacks. I like the look of stepped stacks, and ran across an idea for making your own.

My question is: What do people normally use to filter the air? Or do guys just run them open to the elements?

I went to the kitchen wares section of the hardware store and bought a 3 or 4 inch stainless steel mesh strainer. You know the kind that is shaped like half a sphere or dome with a handle on it. I cut the dome off and shot a bead of RTV around where I cut it off to hold the mesh together. It’s nice and flexible so when you stuff it in the stack it stays put.

Thanks for the response, I think I'm going to try the window screen and cut a foam lawn mower filter.
