I like to rechrome the vent windows of my '53 chevrolet 210, but to have a good result, I have to drill out the rivets. Does anybody know who sells these or is there another nice solution to put it back together ? All I can find are rivets for a '53 truck, but I'm not sure they are the same as I need. I mean the ones marked with the red arrows. The ones with the green arrow I have already. Thanks a lot !!!
I already checked chevs of the 40s, National Chevy association and Truck and Car Shop, but cannot find them there. I'm not familiar with Ace hardware (living in Holland) and wouldnot know what to look for. Anyway, big thanks your fast replies !!
Im chopping my vent windows down. If I come up with a solution or find a rivet to use I will keep you posted.
They were probably chromed as a unit, not pieces. Can you have them chromed the way they are without taking them apart?

They were chromed then assembled before the install. Used to have some of them but have used and given them away. Hardware store should have them.
I'm putting the vent windows together on my '40 Ford... I'll have to check out the brake shoe riveter idea. Anyone else have any input?
The frame is chrome plated, the vent lock is stainless steel. Looks like the same thing on my '57 Chevy. Try one of those vendors.
OPGI has them for 60's GM cars but not sure if they are the same as what you need. They're about $6 for a pair of them. I just ended up using pop rivets on my 67 Vista Cruiser. So far, so good
The car shop of Orange,Ca has everything you need to rebuild your window vents including the rivet setting tool. Here is the link http://www.truckandcarshop.com/4157.html And here is a site that guides you step by step on how to rebuild your vent windows. Granted it's a A.D. Truck vent window but the steps are the same for you car. http://www.chevytrucks.org/tech/ventwindowrebuilt.htm
I used an aluminum rivet in the lower area, smashed them down with a punch after they were installed. the window will cover this end of the rivet. For the upper pivot I used the aluminum rivets to connect it to the wing window surround, for the upper hinge to the car mounted part I ordered the rivets from national chevy association and made a home made tool out of a generic c clamp with a grinder.
