This has nothing to do with style, but if you smoke, the vent window is invaluable.
Without vents, the ashes/embers can get spit right back into the car.

I thought about this too. A lot of stuff happens in the front of those doors. To eliminate them you have to think about moldings and trim pieces as well... In some cases I would bet its just as much, if not more work to eliminate the vent windows. As long as it's done well and the owner/builder likes it, who cares?

I will say that I do love having vent windows and cowl vents. It's not A/C but it keeps you cooler for sure!

I like vent windows and I really miss them. They worked well and the fixed bar for the front edge of the window glass is really handy to grab hard left turns! Or to look cool crusing. Keep them! Gary

  7. I think the 67 Grand Prix was one of the first to not have vent windows.. Some look good without them, some don't...

  8. I love the vents. I wish my new car would have been available with vents. Old cars look too much "street rody" with them missing. They really can make or break the looks of a car if they are not properly done on a rebuild. I am with the guys who think its usually just not willing to do it right when they are eliminated.
But those 34 Chevy vents are too danged wide I think.

Well it isn't an issue with the 48 because it didn't come with them in the first place. But I will agree that when the top was stock height the wind buffeting could get pretty tedious.

I think the main reason a lot of owners of 51,2,3 AD GM trucks switched to one piece windows out side of the smoother look was to pass the trucks off as a 47 or 48 at rod runs when they all had the 48 cutoff.

Other than that vent wings or no vent wings really isn't worth getting your panties in a wad over.

  10. im all for the vent look, but each to there own

What he said. I could not chop my panel truck, but with one piece side Windows, It gives the illusion of bringing the top down a couple of inches.

Sorry, but if someone wants to get into your ride bad enough, the lack of a vent window will not stop them. I don't even bother to roll up my windows...

I like vent windows, especially in old trucks.

They just belong, plus they are practical.

    Never understood removing them.

I don't build show cars or trailer queens, all of my rides are built as daily drivers and long distance cruisers. As far as removing the wing glasses it is a matter of owners taste. My AC runs almost year round and the wind noise is gone. If you smoke it is handy to crack open the wing to ventilate.

Some cars just look strange with one piece windows and others beg for the clean lines.
