Keep them or not? 39 Buick 5 window coupe Stock Drive train 3" 3/4" chop Do most people keep them after a chop or not. Would be nice in the Florida Heat but might mess up the look >? Jdee
Depends on what look you want. Eliminating them is pretty new, never saw it done back when. I kept them when my cpe was chopped
it is twice the work to keep the vent window and well worth the effort. with out them leads to a street rod new tech look even if the rest of the car is not. It also makes a big diffrence where you put the vent window in a chopped car.
Keep 'em. Chrome or stainless wrapped wing windows are one of the many things that make an old car look, ............................... well, ........... old. They are part of what gives old cars character. Take them away and you take a bit of character away too.
Good looking car there! Definately keep them. That is one of those little things I look at on other people's cars, to see if they took the time to chop the vent window. If it's done well it tells me the rest of the car had time taken on details to make it just a little better. If they are left out it tells me they cut corners where they could, but that's just me Plus, nothing is cooler than little chopped vent windows I really love it when they are longer than they are tall
I'd keep 'em. And while we're at it, keep the cowl vent too. It's not only part of what makes it a hotrod instead of a street rod, it's what keeps you cool in the Florida heat. Well worth the effort, no matter what.
I just read through the Valley Customs thread and there were a couple cars in there with no vent windows on them. When I chopped my '53, I eliminated them, just because it was a lot easier than cutting them down and getting them to work again. I guess it depends on the direction you're going with the car. If you're going for a decked out "bomb" style car, I'd definitely keep them. But for a shaved door handle/trim car, might look good without them.
You know I think I will keep them I really did like the ones in all my other older cars from the 60s. Thanks for the look see. Jdee PS: other pics are here. http://woodgraining.com/cgi-bin/pro/emAlbum.cgi?c=show_thumbs;p=z39Buick
