Why won't someone Repop the Shark air cleaner i want. I know they can make a small pittance off of me
But the number of people out there looking for steel 32 bodies is much bigger than the market for desoto grills. Look at the cost of those bodies, they arn't cheap, but compared to a really nice real 32 body, they are. You can get a desoto grill on ebay for around $500-700. You estimated a re-chrome price of $1700(i have no experience rechroming those, but I know all that pot metal has to be pricey, could be more than 1700 for all those teeth). I have a strong feeling the rather limited (even a few hundred, which may take a LONG time to sell is pretty limited) run of repro's would put the price point around the same ballpark as buying originals and having them re-chromed. Many of these reproductions of rarer parts would be so close to the price you may have to pay for an original, that tooling up for a limited run doesnt make sence. Im looking for a 49-51 merc accessory wheel. there is one guy who makes a repro of it. His new price is $1800 (his website says 1500). I found a nice original for $2000 yesterday. Both are out of my price range, but for $200 more, Id definately go for the original. And that wheel is a pretty desirable item too. There are many repro parts out there that cost only a little less to buy new than restoring an original. The problem is, were not talking 55-57 chevy parts, or 32 ford parts here, but parts that may be treasured by our community, but in the whole entire old car scene as a whole, are not popular enough for the cost of production setup. Just my guess as to why these parts havnt been reproduced.
Huh? (reboping)???? is that like a new dance or something? What planet do you come from? Well, I am actually to the point of being fed-up with the whole deal, I am going to do some research..(already have a money guy) sooo, maybe we'll give it a try. You can bet your *** it'll be right! I haaate working with todays repop ****..(bolt on my ***) its more like buy it, work on it, work on it some more, then bolt it on, and still not really satisfied!
I enjoy discussing with you Chad, you have some intersting points, I agree and disagree. Yeah, I know where not talkin' tri five & deuce, but you cannot honestly tell me that the world isn't being Shoebox'ed & Merc'ed to DEATH! Of course, now it's the Jesse wanna be '54's too, but there are alot of parts for the Chevys. You could damb near make one with all the ****. The hobby is growing, dare I say it's becoming 'Trendy' upon young and old..blame your T.V. and the idoits on it, and of course our good ol'buddie Barrett J, now thats ****in' things up royally, I think, that since stuff is only going to get more scarce, as time goes by..that some nice quality repop(made in the USA) stuff otta sell. By the way..what is exactlly that wheel your talking about? I have some nice '49-'50 steering wheels. PM me.
Check this out: http://www.madmaxparts.com/pages/2/index.htm Email the guys (I believe they are in Indiana) and they may be able to help you with dimensions....and a better price than the complete unit!!
Repop Guide headlights? Why? There are lots out there yet. Hell I got a pair at Hershey fro $10. You just have to look other places than ebay! I've got a couple of sets and haven't paid over $100 for any of them. Try finding the Electrolines. Now they are rare and can be expencive! Clark
Yea yea, let us know when you are in the PRODUCTION phase. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, not the same as DONE. As for any person/company that makes aftermarket parts, I'm sure they get (just as I do) someone in their shop at LEAST once a week saying "well, you should make ""these"" because you would make a kabillion dollars from them". I hear it from car guys, Harley guys, atv guys, screen door guys, even a guy I know that makes wagons (like radio flyers). Easy to sit back and tell people how they would make bank, little harder to do it on your dime. I agree with you on "tired of buying stuff that doesn't fit, but even when you start it out as a hobby and making some extra money, eventually it becomes a BUSINESS. For many, it's about the name/price that gets them to buy. For very few, it's about QUALITY. Sure you can get guys to chop tops for little money, but typically they are slathered in plastic. Now there are some who won't use any (or at least minimal), but they charge a LOT MORE. Guess which shop stays busier? As for "what planet are you from? Guess I'm from the planet of "already make parts, been there, done that".
That is a Scott Slot injector scoop, but you might be able to adapt to a carb ? Here is another site with more info on them ... http://www.scottinjection.com/
DeSoto grills aren't m*** repopped because Chrysler won't release the design rights. Ma Mopar is very very protective of it's name and designs. Ask anyone who's had Chrysler sponser an event(like Chryslers and Carlisle). Chryco charges much more to put their name on something than Ford and GM do.
56 Packard lenses are repro'ed, and the fenders can be found real easy - 95% of the '56s I have found in junkyards the fender is there and in great shape, but there's no lights on the car. I had no problem finding '57-8 Plymouth bumper "wings" too - hell, a friend gave me free a bumper with a pair on it that was sitting in a pile of **** he had. I still have a ****ty torn bent rear one in the garage I was supposed to ship to someone and forgot to pack in the box.
I dont suppose anyone knows where I could get some repop desoto grill teeth? The sledsville kit is $1800, too much for my budget. Even the those "junk" plastic ones with the fake chrome would work. I just cant find them anywhere.
