already looking into clip ideas for a possible up and coming project. scanning the local cl***ifieds looking for possible donors i found a '72 ventura clip complete. with a 350/350 combo. all for $300. only thing is i've can't seem to remember ever hearing anybody using a ventura clip. isn't the ventura ponchos answer to the nova? if so wouldn't that mean the clip would be the same as a nova/camaro? my first consideration was finding an 80s chrysler and doing the fifth ave k memeber and just using the 318, ****** and rear out of the same donor. you can usually score those cars around here as decent runners for $600-800. it would really depend on which of the projects i'm currently looking at whether i went with the mopar clip. i've got 3 that i'm seriously looking at and it's just a matter of which iis gonna fall into place. 1956 Dodge. wouldn't have to feel bad since it'd be mopar into mopar. 1955 International. the mopar swap still wouldn't bother me much. or 1959 apache. don't know if i could go the mopar swap on it and the one i'm looking at has a good running 350 in it already so i was thinking camaro/nova clip for that case. i was also told on both the dodge and the binder that the bolt in crossmember from the 73-85 chevy is almost a dead fit. i think it was the dodge the frame needs a 1/4in spacer on each side and the binder needed notched 1/2in on each side or maybe it was vice versa. if that were true it'd be great as i know of several REALLY good donors for that swap. anyhow i know that kind of went off the initial subject but all are questions relevant to the same cause. anyone got any knowledge to share? ...ken....
Yes, I'm pretty sure the Ventura is just a re-badged Nova...Does it have a Chevy 350???Pontiac did some Chevy 305's in the 70's. I have done and drove all three of the most popular swaps MustangII, Volare, and Camaro. I really like the Volare for 50's trucks. I like the adjustability of the tors-bar suspension, to fine tune the ride level. But if you want to bag it go with Camaro. I have a customer who now wants bags with the Volare????NOT......
yeah the fifth ave(volare) like i said is a good option. if i end up with the truck i think i'm gonna end up with it'll probably be that swap. not looking to bag but am looking for it to be low. i'd probably have to sink the volare clip into the frame a bit more than i'd like to get the ride height and the ride quality i am wanting. i know you can do it without notching and still get pretty low but lose ride quality when you drop the torsions to much. bags would be cool but they would probaly take up about half of my build budget and i've always been more of a fan of a LOW car/truck that get driven away like that. i just saw this ad and it seemed like a viable option if it was the same as the nova. hell it be everything but the rear end running gear wise and the guy wants $300obo for everything. i just didn't know if my possibilities for getting low and keeping ride would be better with this or the volare swap...ken....
as far as low it depends on how you put the sub in. here's my cpe with a 74 Nova sub and one coil cut. a beer can won't fit under the bumper upright
Venturas didn't get the Pontiac 350 until '73. If the '72 still has its original engine, it's not a 350 Chevy, it's a 307.
im not crazy about the rear steer nova/camaro clips as they really dont have great front end geometery, thats why gm redesigned them with the 70 camaro. i have clipped a 55 international and several 55-59 chevy pu,s with front steer camaros. my 60 dodge pu driver i have a TA front steer sub with 2x6 rails under the cab and 2x4 out the back under the bed. chevy/nascar style truck arm rear susp. i think you will find the chevy truck suspension to wide and will not lower any thing.also check out where the mopar stg gear will locate in your frame.if you decide to go that route. beware of the cheapest deal dictating you decision.
My first car was a '72 Ventura with a 350 Pontiac engine. Stock. I got it from my brother who bought it brand new. It even had 350 badges on the side. He lived in central Michigan when he bought it, so maybe it was built in Canada...
