Vertex Magnetos--Looking for,,,,,,,

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by FuelRoadster, May 23, 2011.

  1. Got permission from Ryan here,,,,,
A few yrs back,I sold a Vertex Mag for a 331-354 Chrys to a guy here on the HAMB.
    No problems,went smooth as silk.
Included in the deal was an astronomical amount(Like 50 feet or more) of Pakard 440 plug wire.
Cant remember the cats name or info, but I need some of that wire back if possible.I'm just hoping the guy reads this & if not, sorry for the interupt.
And a question,,,how does one attatch Rajah clips like this, to Packard 440 stranded wire?
I gotta bunch of these & want to use them on a project.
The round barrel part has a small hole on the clip side,so Im guessing the wire gets stripped a little bit, soldered to the terminal, and the barrel part gets a minor crimp....maybe?
    Thanks,
    Troy Cagle

    edit,,,I wont bttt this post.
    Thanks Ryan!

Rajah had a special crimping tool for those clips. But I do think the wire was supposed to be soldered as well.

I don't know anyone with the tool, but there are similar terminals reproed that screw together (no solder or crimping) if you still need that "look".

if you don't find your guy, restoration supply company has the 440 wire

  4. Can I butt in here and ask you what's special about that 440 wire? Does it fit the the vertex magneto caps better than 8mm wire? I have 7 and 8 and the 8 is way too tight (almost imnpossbile to get in the cap) and the 7 seems too loose.

Could someone either tell me loose 7 is OK or let me know how to get the 8 in?

  5. Use the Hot Rod Company, an Alliance vender they have 440 and the Raja terminals..............

  6. If it doesn't work out for ya PM me. I think I know where there is some really old Packard wire.

This will help you stay where you can be seen.

Easiest way to replace what you need.

  8. I used Rajah clips way back ,used to crimp them onto ramcharger leads with a special tool no solder.

I got my 440 wire from the hot rod company with ends like the one you shown. I crimped them and they have worked well so far.
