Ok i have a tag and have the paperwork to get my title but they want to see the vin number. HowdoI do that do I take the body off and just bring the frame or do I have to have the body on it. I dont want to have to get there and pull it off the frame in the parking lot as that thing is heavy How did some of you do this
Not sure where on your frame your vin is, but on an ot vehicle I had an inspection done on, the inspector used a mirror to read the vin on the top of the frame rail.
My Model A, we took out the front body bolts, actually all but the rear most and lifted it up 2 inches and put a block of wood between the frame and body. Put it on the trailer, towed it down there, and used a mirror to show them. Worked fine and they (DMV) were happy
My son just registered his 64 Cadillac in CA. He had no VIN tag and had to take it to the CHP for verification. They found the #'s on his frame, wouldn't let him near the car while they looked for the #'s.
Thanks its a model a coupe and there right under the cowl. I may use the block of wood trick sounds good
I have a CHP friend who came to my house and verified the VIN stamp on the frame and filled out the paperwork.
Check with DMV and see who can come to your house for inspection. Highway patrol, sheriff, police? Once you know who can inspect ask yourself if you have any friends, if not call highway patrol sheriff, and police and see if they will make a house call. Charlie Stephens
I have a registration service verify my numbers, get a title and non-op long before I'm ever even thinking about bolting the body to the frame
