so i have had these F1 shock mounts for a while, and i knew i wasnt buildin my rod any time soon... well, atleast not for a couple weeks, plus when tuck was here he left a set behind... they were covered with normal rust, nice thick layer, hard to turn bolts, you know the deal, this is the midwest.. so i put em in vinegar about 2 weeks ago just to see what happens, i have a 5 gallon bucket with 4 gallons vinegar...

these ****ers are SPOTLESS.... like a BRAND new piece!!!

yeah i know, i could blast em, but no cabinet, and didnt wanna bother my friends, plus im only out $7 for the vinegar from sams club, and free 5 gallon bucket from a painter friend... tied em on a string, threw em in...

    what do you guys think???

heres a pic of both sets, mine and tucks.. these were pretty rusty...

Great, now the price of vinegar will go up too... That's a pretty good trick, those look pretty darn clean. I guess it was the regular white distilled kind?

just think...after you're done cleaning up all your rust, you can sell the vinegar to dope heads that need to clean their systems for pee tests...

How does the speed and price compare to Mol***es ?
    Someone must have tried both.

I'm guessing the Vinegar method is more expensive, for the same size tank.
But it might be faster. And it won't go rancid.

For sure,Vinegar fumes will corrode Copper,so I imagine they would do
the same on steel.Make sure the part is completly submerged, and the container covered.

Plenty of uses for tis one. Id be a bit careful on your 94s. Could be a bit too effective.

I've been trying out vinegar lately to. My door latches were rusted solid, now they look almost new. I've also done 6 shocks with links, and several other ***orted parts, all in the same 2 gallons. A hole lot easier than sand blasting if you don't mind waiting a week. Be sure to oil or paint immediately or they will rust as fast as they came clean.

    That's cool.... Stinkmounts.

I take stuff up to U-spray in Butler. It's not very expensive... they have a gl***bead cabinet and oxide for harsher ****. They always cut you a deal if you pay with cash.

Do NOT put aluminum in there. It will either disolve to nothing or get very very soft and crumbly. Ask me how I know...

I showed my neighbor who used to run a business power washing and cleanign stuff. He said to try bakeing soda with vinegar, I ***UME he ment to put baking soda on the part after getting the part wet with vinegar and then scrubbing the part. I haven't had time to try it yet, he said it would clean the parts faster.
Anyone ever tried that? Sounds like a way to clean panels that are to large to dip.

DO NOT use one of your wifes teflon coated frying pans to soak the rust off a bunch of beer bottle openers...

Had heat issues on my 8ba. Ran four gallons of vinegar through this 5 gallon system and you could believe the **** that came crawling out of it.
Nice sparkly clean cooling bores and a cool running flatty was the result.

did you run it through the radiator and all?????

    like it was coolant?

that is an AWESOME idea... i bet running the motor for 5 minutes that way would work AWESOME with the heat and all...

Actually, coper is cleaned to a nice shine with salt and vinegar--an old trick my Uncle Walt's wife told me when I was a kid--she was a cook for a living, and they used to clean the bottoms of those old stainless steell with copper clad bottoms that way.

I found out by accident when I busted a jar of Prego spaghetti sauce on some rusty parts that the tomatoes are acidic enough to do a nice cleaning job. Looked like new there too! Better hot rodding thru kitchen chemistry.

Yes, i ran it like coolant. Only I ran it two times. First time for One day the next time for three days. The coolant is as clelan as could be.
Be sure to rinse the **** out of it afterward.

After reading this post, I got 6 gals of vinegar and a plastic storage box. I put my front springs in 2 days ago...the first day the vinegar turned a little brown but not much was happening to the rust. This morning I peeked in and I couldn't see the springs cause the vinegar was totally black. I reached in and pulled up one spring to discover most of the rust was gone. I used a wire brush to s****e off some real tough spots and put them back in the tank.

How long can I use the old vinegar? I have some other small parts and a couple of bigger ones so I'm trying to think of a way to find and or build a tank for the bigger parts. I was wondering if i add a small air pump like from a fish tank and aggitate the vinegar if it would work faster.
