Maybe if they actually see what an old car really looks like they can make better re pop parts from it than from a photo in 1971. I can just see the guy looking at it and scratching his head as he learns its made of metal, oh yes very nice, 58 Buick not made of recycled card board, ok. no pwoblem.

My Wife is from the Philippines, I keep telling her I'm going to figure out how to bring one back with us when we go visit. Or at least a body for one.

Imported this one from CA, after a little bidding war on egay. Rest assure that this one has gone to a good home. The hot rod/custom scene is international and some of us guys here in the Netherlands are doing our best to create some great machines. (you can check out my build thread,"41 plymouth coupe 392 hemi" and maybe you'll agree )

In the late 20's ,the US thought we could cut off doing biz with the world and it helped trigger the depression. When Juan Peron took over in Argentina, he said "we don't need the world" and we'll make it all here.
They still haven't crawled out of that hole 60 years later. Kind of like saying Kentucky shouldn't trade with Tennessee.

Farmer's very impressive Build Thread is a perfect example of why this is a positive thing.

I have a very close friend that lives in U.K. I correspond with him on average weekly basis, sharing information about his car and such. He purchased a '29 Chivvy in OZ, had it shipped to U.K. several years ago. The car was originally exported to OZ by Chevrolet Motor Company, assembled under an international trade/patent/exchange rules/treaties that I won't bore anybody with;

My point?
Anybody truly sincere about the thumb-sucking premise that export/import is a bad thing, PM me and we can get the gears working to have you purchase and bring that car back to where you think it belongs............:D

Just a few weeks ago, I heard the term; ''beer-flavored water'', but was to drunk to remember what the conversation was about.
Now I can place it back into context.

Thanks for that :D.

As a Dutchman, I can't say anything bad about international trading. We've been playing that game for hundreds of years.
And as I can imagine, American people aren't against importing products also; There has been a few ''disputes'' about the import of oil in recent years.... LOL

Kinda O/T, but... the reason you don't see many Jap bikes from the 60's, 70's and 80's is because all the clean ones were shipped to England and Europe in the 90's. I helped load container after container of them.

I sold a 71 Riviera to a guy from the Netherlands back in the 90's. I heard he had bought another two boattails before mine. I don't have a problem with it. Instead of complaining about it pay a fair price and buy the car you want.

Seeing the Gospel of Hot Rodding being spread worldwide is a great concept :) Here on the HAMB we have lots of folks all over the globe and we get along fine,It is a lot better to see these cars go to be appreciating rodders in other countries than turned into scrap for the Chinese to bolster their economy. The world leaders could learn a lot from our community about getting along with others.

18. Thought for the day, every car thats exported is genuinely going to a good home, to get the vehicle to his or her liking, Parts are required and lots of them.
See from this viewpoint the classic car export is actually adding a truckload of dollars in GDP for the USA, employing thousands in manufacture and distribution and that additional % of demand for these products makes it worthwhile for the producers to keep on producing for you guys domestically, supplying to a myriad of economies takes out the peaks and troughs of both economy and business movements for these guys and enables stability of their business which = US Jobs and income. Personally I can vouch for contributing 10s of thousands of USD to the US economy over the last 7 years since I imported my own vehicles, and I aint alone on that one.

Tell me again why its a bad thing...

19. As long as they go to CAR GUYS it's ok with me. KooL Cars are Kool wherever they are.
But,............mine will never go away in my lifetime !

So is my wife, but we've just moved back there and she actually wants to own a Jeepney now! Before she was all full of Honda buzzbomb urges, but in the 8 years we lived in the UK she seems to have changed her outlook on life. Jeepney here we come. :D

They even make 'em in stainless steel now.

Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I am a little surprised at the seemingly liberal attitude the bulk of the HAMBers have on this topic. Especially those guys along the West Coast that not too long ago had their real estate jacked up beyond the reach of most natives due to “foreign investment”. I watched the neighborhood I lived in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com[IMG]Sunnyvale, back in the 80s, go from an old fashioned working class neighborhood to little <ST1:pTokyo in a matter of a few years. There was nothing wrong with that and the neighborhood certainly looked nicer for the investment, but I certainly did not have the bottomless pockets of the overseas investor.

The internet has certainly been a boost to all car hobbies, and I am sure it has provided a nice living for many Americans selling parts and cars to folks all over the world, but it has also certainly raising the price of restoration and hot rodding here in the States to the point that the average teenager may soon no longer afford to bust his or her knuckles on their first cool old car. :(

I say they need to take the cars that were imported here first before taking any that was made here butsince they are going to someone who wants it they wont get crushed like alot do here by the stupid idiots that dont care about them.

26. I'm curious as to what the OP has to say to all of this. He started the thread 2 months ago with a factless statement and walked away...

Australia passed that point a few years ago... And we're also exporting our old cars all over the world, including to the USA...

I happen to like a lot of not so HAMB friendly cars, which comes in handy, as it's cheaper and easier to import and build a Japanese performance car than to find, restore and build some classic Australian muscle...

Apart from the Hollywood rich kids I've never known teens that could 'Afford' a car that didn't need lots of work meaning hey still can 'bust their knuckles'.

I didn't read the whole gig. I'll say get the dough from what ever source you can if you're selling. This whole "keep it here" mentality is just wong sometimes. Did it hurt the Harley market ten or so years ago, or help it?
