Vintage Bicycles

Was told by person that collects bikes , to mount it so as to lift it off floor and leave old tires on even if their shredded .

 

Thanks, never thought of that, for years it hung in my shop only to get it out of the way but now it's resting on its side on some boxes.

 

Just picked up this '60s Huffy for $10 at Goodwill. Not sure what I will do with it yet.

My wife brought home a disassembled old Shelby pre-war from a yard sale. It didn't have a fork and I was bummed to find out it had probably died when the head and down tubes were tweaked. It's got basically everything else, down to the rock hard old tires still mounted on the original wheelset. The only part I'm unsure of is if the coaster brake is all there because it's out of the hub shell.



You can see the damage if you know what you're looking for. It's got a great look to it but it's not safe to ride.



I'm not really interested in old bikes myself. I ride my bikes and I know eventually I'd fold something up and end up pushing it home, and if I wanted to walk I would've left the bike at home.

I would like to have a modern interpretation of an old pre-war frame to build into a Klunker to ride though.

 

message or post pics and i can prolly tell ya if all the parts for the hub are there or not

 

Thanks. They're not handy right now. I did download pages from a tech reference that shows the exploded parts. I just haven't taken the time to try and figure out if it was all there or not. The frame damage knocked the wind out of that project.

 

Here's a JC Higgins I drug home from somewhere? Any you Bicycle experts know any info about it? I say a 50's. Ron......

Yeah just a toy engine made by MARX Toys in the 1960's has the control on the handle bars. Look up Vrroom toy on the youtube. It's kinda funny. Ron.......

Well I'll be darned. Should've figured one of you guys would have one of those old VRROOM motors. Haven't seen one for over 50 years... cuz that's when I had one.

I was going to say battery operated at first. But I think I had to give the twist grip a quick turn and the cable would turn a small flywheel motor that made the noise.

Vrrooom vrrooom VARROOOOM!

 

Oh my gosh. I just watched the same old commercial for the varoom motor that I saw as a kid.
LOL... time traveling... whoa.

You can tell it's Mattel, it's swell!

Oh... it is battery operated.

 

Great thread, I have a soft spot for vintage bicycles since I have 4 of them myself.
They are all made here in Sweden so probably pretty "unknown" to you guys but I'll post some pictures of them later on if you're interested

3 of them are from the 50's and the 4th is probably a bit too modern, late 60's/early 70's but I'll have to look it up.

 

This is one of my bicycle projects.
A 1951 Swedish made "Nordstjernan" (Northstar in english).

Plan is to remove the package tray since it is badly damaged, replace the saddle with a 3-spring Brooks leather saddle and put some brown Schwalbe Fat Frank tires on it.

 

That's an interesting chain guard, with all the truss like cut-outs. I like it!

Quick glance at fleebay, says they're too rich for my blood, even if I had an old enough bike to put one on.

... Original 50's Delta light that I found for my '57 Corvette ...

 

A few years ago I dove past a yard sale. I saw a few bicycles. So I turned around and went back. This blue girls bicycle had a $10. tag on it. The lady said that she had gotten it new as a kid. I asked her why she was getting rid of it. She said that it took up too much space in her basement. It'd never been left out doors, ever. I told her after I bought it. I could never have sold it, if it were mind. Because I'm way too sentimental. It makes a great beach bicycle for my wife. And no I didn't even ask if she would take less. lol Ron.....

@Ron Funkhouser Foremost was a JC Penney's brand, the bike itself was made by Murray.

 

This is my "daily rider" since 2005, a Swedish made Monark from 1950.
Wheels, pedals and saddle is not original and the front light is missing but this bike has a lot of sentimental value to me since it's my grandmothers old bike that she gave to me.

The original blue and white has faded into some sort of green/grey/brown mix over the years.

 

This is a beautiful all original bike from the early 50's I believe, haven't been able to do a exact determination of the year yet.
Also Swedish made by a company called Crescent.

Story behind this is that my father found it in pieces in an old basement around 2005/2006 and put it together.
A couple of months ago he gave it to me since I have a thing for old stuff.
