  1. I was thinking Kugel, but needed a better view of the cowel to tell. That "roadster" was Marlon Sefton's 5 window before it was anyone's roadster. The tonneu covered the cowel where the top was cut off.

  2. I know how that hurts you Rick. But when a guy is right, he's right![IMG]

  7. Rick, that black 707 roadster is still bugging me. I talked to Jerry, and he says that car was built by the late Roger Crowe from a 3 window coupe. Also, my old friend Joe Lassalette says he watched Denny Jones do the lettering on the car while Joe's partner Stan Johnson set up the Hilborns for Roger. The part that was bothering me is that Jerry's roadster never ran hairpins on the rear, and had a beautiful Don Long front axle and spindles. I found the 707 car on the Road Runners website, and it is listed as Red and Jerry's roadster, but that is an error. I think since both roadsters began as coupes, that is where the confusion came in.

    It's in the mail.....

(pick the booger off first though.)

  11. Finally found a good shot of Red and Jerry's first roadster. Note the beautiful Don Long axle. I love the shackle/shock mount. Ol' Don always like to make one bracket do the work of two! Also note the roll bar is different than the black 707 car.

    Rick or Dean,

Just a question regarding the last car posted - #247 5 window chopped 34 coupe. Did Tom's Muffler own this car? I remember the roadster he had with Buick Straight 8 - do you have a pic of it? I grew up not far from his shop.

As of a few years ago Tom was still running a 34 with a flathead at El Mirage and the Buick/roadster also. Another proud Rod Rider. He may well still be running I have not been to the lake in 3 or 4 years.

    Thanks Rich,

I remember when he built the roadster. He also had a blue 37-39 [?] Buick Century coupe he ran at the Antique Nationals that ran strong. Not sure if he still owns the Muffler shop, I haven't been by there in years. He lived directly behind the shop. Hopefully he is still active running his cars.

  17. Jerry Kugel's first race car. 167 in '62 with a 301" SBC on gas. I always loved the SBC valve cover air scoops! Back then Jerry was on a real tight budget, and knew how to do a lot with a little.

Jerry signed my bike a couple years ago out on the Salt. Never seen a guy so at home at Bonneville as him

  20. Mike, I wouldn't say the first door slammer to run over 300 was too much O/T!!! Jerry, Joe, Jeff, and Jerilyn are some of the nicest people I've ever known.

Here are some shots of Don Waite's 29 roadster that I restored for the 50th GNRS. It is now on display at the NHRA museum. This is posted in this thread because it was Meant to be used at Bonneville. Due to the fairings over the front shocks they told Don to cut them off if he wanted to run as a modified roadster. He told the SCTA to take a hike and he went drag racing instead. It never made it to the lakes. He was experimenting with small diameter goodyear racing tires. He also built it up high to allow the air to pass underneath the car. The bottom of the car was pretty smooth. He built the tube chromoly chassis and had it heat treated/ stress relieved when he worked at a company that built helicopters. Don Borth did the alum work. It is much like the Ohly roadster. Amazing built car. The hemi was the same hemi he ran in the rear engine modified 27.
