I thought this car may fit into the catagory. It is the Marshall, thayer, Glenn, & Banta Crosley. Shown in it's last configuration with Mike Vandorn's name replacing Glenn. I recently talked to gaary banta about the car and he said that he reviewed the log book and the car has over 2500 miles logged at Bonneville since it first appeared on the salt in '49 and then owned by Howard Johansen. The car was retired after the 2004 season when, Sadly Verlin Marshall passed away. There has been recent rumors that the car will be lent to the NHRA museum for temporary display. Gary tells me that the car appeared at all Bonneville speedweeks save 2 from '49-2004. Are there any cars still around with more time on the salt? The car was featured on the '99 El Mirage dash plaque and on the cover of Louise Noeth's book. And holds the record at Muroc of 219 and change for C/BFCC.

  6. What a shot. Fred Carrillo #17 streamliner, Shadoff Special #27, Hill-Davis "Bob Estes Mercury Special", Chet Herbert's Beast IV, Dana Fuller's GMC 671 streamliner (formerly Beast III). Amazing!!!!!

    Rick Finch,
Your collection of early Bonneville pictures is staggering!! Any chance that you could post some on the Landracing Bonneville site? There are some "old salts" over there that would really appreciate them! If not can I have permission to "steal" some from here and post on the Landracing site??

    Awesome pictures!!

    Rex

PS: You wouldn't happen to have any pics of the C&T Automotive 32 roadster, ran in 52-53, Ardun motor, went 162 on fuel.

    Thanks again!

    Jeff,
I figured that the people that made the car famous should be acknowledged. Bill bought the car new. Built it for the Altered class in 1969 and raced it with and without partners for 41 years. Doug and Mike Cook raced it for 12 years. Between the two of them there have been 6 people get into the 200 club and over 30 records set. That kind of devotion to one car deserves credit. How many of the vintage salt cars are still around today?

Small blue car on left set the BF/R record in 1958. Still around.

    See below for my vote.

gotta remember: anyone that gets off the porch and runs something is my hero. They (any racer) sacrifice everything from meaningless trivia to wives and sons just to run something WOT. Bless them all! (edit: thanks for posting all these pics!)

I really appreciate the link to the B-Ville '54 pics. Kind of a personal thing for me.

Ya know I always look at these pics or pics of B-Ville past and wonder why I never see a pic of the Isky Roadster. Does someone have one?

Bill Deming was the other half of this coupe and a 29 roadster they ran. You can catch a glimpse of the Deming Air Conditioning above the 1/4 window. I only know and recognize these two cars as Bill was a very good friend of my dad's. Bill passed away a few years back.

    Gaters,

Thanks for posting the information regarding the coupe and the roadster. I also remember a 37-39 Buick Century dark blue coupe that Tom was running, not sure if he owned it or not. I remember hanging out at the shop and seeing a partner working on the roadster - may have been Bill. Sorry to hear he has passed away.
