    NEAT!!!!

BTW .. As most of you probably know, the Fort Dix (NJ) Speedway later became known as the New Egypt (NJ) Speedway.

    Absolutely GRRRRRREAT pictures Doug!!!
    KEEP THEM COMING ... PLEASE!!!

I'll give you my take (guesses on some) one picture at a time.

    Left to Right ...
With his back to us Len Duncan, Mario Andretti, probably Jimmy Maguire, Johnny Mann, ????? (in jacket), Len Thrall, Ronnie Evans, King Carpenter, Russ Klar.

BTW .. More than likely they are standing & sitting there, against the wall, waiting to be announced/introduced and the cars are probably across the asphalt, on a diagonal .. tail to the infield.

    TWO THINGS ..

Stan Lobitz promised to burn me a copy of the Eli Roth disks "IF" he ever found his copies. Stan has so much "stuff", it may never happen. Can anyone else help? I'd be willing to buy copies.

Doug, this might have been when we were all talking with you at Ken Brenn's show in Warren, NJ in September. Someone mentioned that the (now probably overgrown) Vineland (NJ) Speedway still exists and that even a piece, a remnant of the (probably well decayed) grandstand is still there. I THINK who ever mentioned this said it was across from a college (maybe). .... I've looked for it on the Historical Aerials site and on Google Earth .. with NO LUCK. Can anyone help me pin point the location????

    THANKS IN ADVANCE.

    Here's one for 'ya all.

This track was long closed when these pictures were taken in 1953 and 1980.
It's now completely gone, replaced by an apartment or condo development.

It ran midgets, stock cars, I think sprint cars (and maybe big cars????).

A midget and stock car driver and sometimes starter once promoted it, although he was not the main person who promoted races there.

It was in either CT, NJ, NY, or PA.

    Can anyone name it?

HINT .. It was NOT the Old Bridge (NJ) Speedway.

That is Johnny Mann with his back to the camera. I'm thinking the unknown is Chuck Stain, but thats a guess.

There isn't enough detail to confirm Jimmy Maguire, but he had that style haircut, and did have a drivers suit like that.

Buildy, I saw the Randolph picture and ,never heard of him. That time frame drivers came and went pretty quickly.

    Thanks Jim,

I saw on the photo he was from Freeport LI NY which was right next to the town where I was born(Oceanside).
Apparently he never made it to the Champ car rung on the ladder.

    That`s for sure.

Michael Fernier had this to say about Randolph:

"Dave Randolph's real name was Bayard Douglas Tewksbury (no, really!), and he was a "coming man" before the war, but unfortunately got killed during hostilities. His #55 car is a red Hal, but I don't know who owned and/or built it."

I think they had a race track in Deer Park, but that was before my time, right Ken?

I think my dad said he used to go there as a kid, along with tracks at Cross Bay and Mineola.

I'll give Marty Himes a call about Dave Randolph.
Marty grew up in Freeport, NY and was around racing, in one way or another, since he was a kid.

The name Dave Randolph is familiar to me.

OOPS!!! .. Before my time, but all that is familar to me .... Maybe from the many stories I heard from people like "Dutch" Schaefer, Len Duncan, Eli Roth, Frank Boeninghaus and others..

Eli Roth was a walking encylopedia regarding both drivers and cars.
I once discovered a midget under a tarp on City Island, NY. Dutch, no one knew anything about it, until I asked Eli Roth. Old Eli told me that so & so was killed in the car and that the owner was so upset the car was said to have been destroyed by him. But low and behold there it was quite a few years later, where I found it. It seemed that just before his demise, Tony Bonadeies was converting the brakes from drums to disks for a new owner and hadn't finished.

    Again, right on Tony!!!!

Marty Himes has built a list of OVER 40 tracks that once existed on Long Island (NY). That includes both Brooklyn & Queens, which are physically a part of the island.

That must have been shortly before Randall was fatally injured at Lime Rock in the Sheehan Offy.
