Having seemingly nothing better to do, I dragged the "Tini-Home" trailer out from behind the shop, put a "good" tire (notice the "traditional" wide white?) to replace the flat, bald, 50 year old snow tire (why do all project vehicles come with one bald snow tire?) and pulled it behind the wagon over to the shop. My first thought was just fluff it and flip it, but my wife loves it, and has promised to help. Uh-huh.

So, here it is. Angles may fear to tread, but I am going to rush in. Follow along if you want to see some high-class-cobbling and corner cutting, this thing is going to be done on the cheap!

    Happy Camping!

Looks like a cool project! Where are you guys finding this stuff?!!!

  6. I'm watching, Brian! I've located a lil camper here in town....I just have to go ask if it's for sale....probably not, but I'll ask!

  7. One of those Hams is definately on my "Gotta Get" list. Those things are too damn cool.

Any idea who the manufacturer is or what year it was made? That thing looks like a '50s version at least.

With what you built in the past I doubt there will be any corners cut. My guess would be more towards way overboard and over budget hahahaha!

Yeah, it DOES look cool behind the wagon. It's a "Tini-Home" brand, built here in Michigan, in the thumb area, evidently only for that one year, 1953. Everybody with a screwdriver and a saw back then (as now, really) could be a camper manufacturer. I've seen three others of this make, kind of surprising really that ANY have lasted, since they're built of ticky-tacky...

I'll subscribe! Can you fill us in on the year / mfg? Size? Headroom? And, of course, weight / tongue weight? Thanx, Gary

Ryan's going to be telling me I need to cut down on my subscription list but I'm in on this one.

It looks like that one has a lot of wood to replace.

I've got what's left of a mid 60's 15 footer at home that I want to strip to the frame and after cutting the frame down build a new and similar version of that. Just about the same amount of room would be perfect.

Thats a nice project. They are fun and a decent place to stay when at a run.
Nothing like old car camping with HAMB and eggs in the morning.

This is just what I have been looking for. I towed home a canned ham, believe it is a 52 Bellwood. Mine is in a bit worse condition but I hope to polish the turd up on the cheap too. Keep posting updates with pics please.

I hear ya on the single bald snow tire...I never would have expected one on a trailer though. I guess it's a rule somewhere, regardless of the vehicle.

I've been looking at campers ever since my buddy picked up an Airstream to tow behind his pickup.
You have a great starting point with your rig.
I definitely will be following your build....Good Luck!!

Wow, I'm surprised by the intrest in this thing. It's a '53 "Tini-Home", it's probably 17' from the ball (somebody lengthened the tongue about 3 feet, which I'm leaving alone)to the back of the trailer, and a mere 10' on the floor. Headroom? Gosh, I don't know, I'm 5'4", and my head doesn't hit!:D It must be 6' or better, it's pretty tall.

The tongue weight is also unkown, but I can't pick it up. I'd guess a couple hundred pounds? The manufacturer on the door jamb tag says "Central Michigan Railroad", which was probably some guy who lived near the tracks around Saginaw!

It really looks MUCH better in the photos that it actually is, which is why it probably should have been immediately listed on ebay.;) All the interior is going, but, since it's so small, it won't be too big a job. I think some of the framing is going to be salvagable, but I'll know for sure when I pull the tin off it. A friend or ours is an RV manufacturer, and he's going to fix me up with polished/clear-coated aluminum sheet, the same stuff horse trailers are made of these days, so it'll be mirror finished, and no polishing!:D

I thought calling it a Canned Hamb was kinda funny, so thanks to those who thought so too. I particularly like the one shaved whitewall tire, I may do another (good) pair for it. Bagging it would be fun, and maybe one of those plastic SBC dummy engines on the tongue? ;)

Cool little trailer! It looks like the 1947 Boles-Aero that I used to have. It had a sofa in across the back that folded flat into a bed.

Neat camper . I'll be looking for a small teardrop to tow behind my shoebox once it's roadworthy . My friend has a Scotty I could use , but that's too big to tow behind my 'box , IMHO .

  30. There is a guy about 10 miles from me that has what I am sure is the exact same model. I keep trying to talk him out of it. I'll be watching this one closely.
