Hot Rods Vintage compass....aaa battery size

Hi all! I have a vintage Taylor compass and a few other mfg compasses to select from to mount on my split window 1951 plymouth. I found the diameter of the battery is slightly too big to fit in the battery tube. I can wire in a six volt bulb or LED in place of the 1.5 volt flashlight type bulb it used originally. However , I figured I would pose the question to this awesome group. Are there non aaa batteries avail to fit or certain specific mfg of the aaa or "penlight" battery that fit without modification?
