Features Vintage front wheels, post pic's here.

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Kiwi Kev, May 14, 2006.

  1. Does anybody know anything about these wheels?

They are conventional Halibrand spindle mounts but are missing the smaller sized webbing around the centre boss.

You guys are makin me sick! Back in the 70's I bought a model a sedan.. A 29 it had a 283 with a dontov cam and a 471 jimmy blower (v belt drive) and 2 carter 600 on top. It also has halibrand spindle mounts and 15x 10 ansen sprints on the back with oh ya positraction tires. On an olds rear no less. Like a dumb ass I sold everything . The guy that bought the spindle mounts is a good friend of mine and we often joke about how he bought em from me for 80 bucks and sold em for 85.. He sold em to a guy with a t bucket that he built. The t was in a garage fire and i think my buddy got the wheels back by buying the burned up car. Ill have to ask. This shit really makes me sick though. I had a gold mine!!!! At least the car is still around. I drove it every where for 13 years then sold it after my divorce but its still running.
    Dave

oh ya i bought a t bucket one time with the motor wheel fleas or what ever you call em.. they went cheap too ...........

  14. I've got the sickness too but have sold off most of my collection over the last few years - here's a few I've owned in the past:

The first two pics are aluminum smoothies - narrowed 15x4 1/2s and 15x6s - neat wheels and I have another set currently in the works...

Next are my 15x14 Hals and matching spindlemounts.

One of two sets of original 16x10 ETIII's that I've owned over the years - sold and going on a restored fc in Socal...

Foresight Ventures - neat aluminum lipped window wheels similar to big window Hals - fairly rare and I have a set of 15x8 1/2s and 15x7s (trying to figure out if I can narrow the 7s up a bit)

Have owned so many that I never took pics of - wish I still had them all!

  15. Halibrands I think........Took this pic at OCIR Antique nats in the very early 80's. One of my favorite 34's ever since I saw it. Anyone know anything about it? Wonder where it is now.

Kev, I love that 34. I wish I could find it. :p I found this pic on the HAMB. Are these just hubcaps or some kind of rare magnesium knock-offs. They're cool either way..

Figured I'd share this recently shot picture I took for a friend. Wheels are hard enough to find, but vintage tires being a wear item are damn near impossible..
    These are Pirelli 4.00/4.25-15

Anybody know the years that these were made? I didn't see them in the catalogs shown above. I just discovered a pair on the front of a friends Model A covered up in the barn. No I'm sure he won't sell them.

I had a post about what wheels to run on the front.
Doing a 32 sedan with these on the rear.
Those unpolished Wheel Vintique mags with ribs?
Mismatched wheels...goes against my beliefs, but I can change!

  20. Nothing gets my heart beating faster than vintage drag wheels...

    Here's the 15 x 6" Americans on the front of my '55... crem-da-la-crem in the 60's on '55 Chevies...

The drag racers would go for the narrow wheels... but the street strip cars mostly wore the wider 6"ers.. at least in the Bay Area where the wheels were being made.

    Sam.

Same here on the east coast SamIyam. This is my coupe as it was in the late sixties, long before I bought it. 15 x 8 1/2 and 15 x 6. I bought a set of these for it, but like ShakeyPuddin55 says, finding the right tires is the hard part.

  22. Dave, do you know of anyone having Lonnie widen a set of wheels? I'd like to know the quality. I need a pair widened from 8 to 10 or 11 and would like to maintain the existing backspacing so the cuts will be made on the front side. I hear Eric guarantees that you cannot see where the mods were made or you don't pay for the work - only trouble is I don't have 1 year to wait!

    Thanks,
    Steve

  24. Agreed - I have been into both the vintage wheel and vintage tire collecting for a while - currently have some cool 16" Firestone dirts but am looking for 18's.

Pie Van is still around Kev. I think still owned by Dick Legge. McDougal still has Green Meanie too and the GSS altered body is on display in the North Shore Clubrooms still with same paint. There is a website dedicated to the memory of Kevin Delores.
Those Aussie made 5 spoke spindle mounts are Dragway's , made by Ian Splatt father of Rachelle Splatt ..current top fuel driver.
We run a vintage set on our Toppolino.
