Is anyone running vintage houdaille shock on their rides? I got a set for free and they were on a running driving car that road perfectly. I'm converting my 34 Tudor from street rod to Hot Rod so I'm yanking the MII IFS out of it and kinda like the look of them. Pro's-Con's of running these? I was thinking of finding some old beat up perches and rob the balls off the top and weld them to the top of my new perches. Has anyone ever done this? I know I'm asking for it so let me have it!
Putting them on my 34 coupe and also a 27 T Im building right now but as far as real world driving experience, I have none. Drove my model a with NO shocks, no problem (yeah, I know) so Im sure the houdailles will work fine.
You might consider the reason that a lot of people paid good money to convert to tube shocks, they were a great improvement to ride and handling. If you just have to have old school nostalgia then go for it.
Thing is I have triangulated 4 bar rear with coil overs and wasn't planning on changing that end of it. With the car being fenderless; I'm not sure it will look right.
I have chosen the early shocks for there aesthetics and make no claims to know if they are of lesser, greater or equal effectiveness. I love early oem Ford equipment rearranged to build hot rods. Kudos to you BigJim for undoing some of the "improvements" on your project
Thanks man I'm doing it to save myself some time and money so I can get this car on the road. A plus is I bump up the kool factor by making the car fenderless and by adding a dropped axle under it.
Your Houdaille shocks should be adjustable..I'd use them..They are on my 47 Crosley and work fine, being adjustable is key..
Adjustable? Sweet but I wouldn't know the first thing about adjusting them though. They were stock units that were on my buddy's 37 Ford coupe. I drove in the car and it drove nice. They worked fine. I wish I could see more examples of them in use is all.
