So I walked into my man cave /family room this weekend. I sat down eating lunch, grilled ham and Swiss on rye, BBQ potato chips (for those wondering) and was looking at some of my "display" items. Those things which if you are not into hotrod culture you can never explain their meaning to a non-believer. We know them as pure artwork. I'm looking at the Isky trinket bag pictured at the beginning of this thread. Its pristine sitting there on the shelf in its plastic bag but who gets to really enjoy it? Myself and my same friends (I have a couple) who stop by. I grabbed the package and went out to the garage, lifted the hood on the 52 and started looking for the appropriate spot to pin a medal. I do believe I just saw the Jimmy swell up a little with pride. It would pair nicely to the graphic already displayed in the window The car has run Isky cams since the day he swapped for the GMC one week after purchasing the car new. It has been a loyal trooper in our family for 70 years I believe the car has earned the right to display the plaque. Kind of its Merit Badge or Bronze Star. From the day dad bought it from the dealership, the car has "served" him well. Transporting him back and forth from Cando, N.D. to his Army post in Seattle. Was the chariot for when he met, courted, married and honeymooned with the woman who would be my mother. All this time being a successful racecar and safely transporting our family on everyday journeys. I enclosed some mockup photos thinking right between the Sun tach transmitter and the soft glow of the "hood light" shining down. Everyone has an opinion. Does it beat sitting on a shelf? What do you think?
I think the tag is awesome! The sun tach receiver is also! Does it work? So... Since I see kingaurthersknight and others are experts on Jimmy's and isky cams. I have what I thought was a isky 500 mega cam in a 270 gmc. Is that the same as the magnum or a different cam? Rooster
There are certain things that cars earn in building and in compe***ion that can never taken away. When I gave my son the 1940 race car I had bought in 1974 and started competing at Bonneville in 1975; he told me the inspection decals, which were water transfer at that time, would never be removed from the right lower windshield. 1975, 76, & 77 were also record setting years for the car too. Records are broken but memories and possibly a vehicle’s legacy will live far beyond the builders or previous owners could ever imagine.
Thanks I think other hotrodders will enjoy seeing it also. You don't see them very often. As far as Jimmy experts you have one a couple posts below yours. Jimmy Six. That's where I would direct my question on the cam.
I checked out technoversion looks like it could be a good conversion! I just have to hope the old tachs I have work! What intake and carb or carbs do you have on the jimmy? Rooster
When you know, you know! And chances are if you don't get it, you never will fully get it. lol Nostalgia is way more than just nostalgia. Did I just make any sense? Lippy
