There are not any good photos in my documents right now but next to my Shelton flyer is a Woodburn schedule on a business card from 1964, a Beeline Raceway "Top of the tower" restaurant menu, and a flyer from McMinnville OR. dragstrip from the late 60's,
My grandfather collected matchbooks. I have inherited the collection. I went through them all and took out all the car truck and bus related ones. I'll start with my favorite one.
This was an interesting read, I scanned it in so my friend could use the file for something. Lots of ads about getting new posters in for the shop, promotions like winning a new corvette, or if you ordered a case of motor oil you'd get a free display
I have that same transfer on a old paper towel dispenser . My father put it on there in the late 50's i think still in my garage
View attachment 5755460 These are a few hanging in my shop. The Olympia Beer decal is huge , and unused.
My wife keeps telling me to put this puzzle together " you fit in that age group ". I'm thinking my 5 year old grandson will get first chance some rainy day.
Hello, One of our prized possessions is/was this custom print designed by So Cal local artist, John Van Hamersveld. His artwork is/was fantastic back then and now. We saw several of these on telephone poles in lightweight poster paper. We all tried to take them down cautiously, but the staple holes still showed. The old days, but still in storage… As noted, we did give away some of these classic original posters from when we were 20 somethings. Our decor got a little cleaned up and changed during our days as 30-40 somethings and a change of direction. But, these days, we were able to get our hands on a limited edition thick posterboard image of the original Van Hamersveld poster. No holes or marks on it. So, it proudly sat on a wall glass frame. Jnaki The concert was outstanding and our experiences at the concert have been noted here on the HAMB. On the day of the concert, we drove up to the shrine auditorium early to get a good parking spot and hang around the local area diners, the giant Exposition Park and the university just a block or two away. The Red 65 El Camino was our workhorse car for 125k worth of driving all over So Cal. But at the time, it was relatively new, being 3 years old. In the first row parking lot in front of the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium in February 1968. Note: The concert was the best one during this era and will be remembered foNo one out performs Jimi Hendrix on stage…r a long time ago old memory. As nice as the musicians/groups were, the headliner was Jimi Hendrix. But we all got introduced to an unusual stage presence, "Hard rock, psychedelic rock, blues rock, acid rock, heavy metal, proto-punk was the current rock music description of this group." Back then, it was a stage full of tall speakers that were the tallest set we had ever seen. Then on the big stage, walks a single guitar player and for the next portion of the concert, everyone got introduced to the loudest music ever played on stage. Blue Cheer… For most, it was the start of heavy metal music and the group became noted as a one hit wonder in some circles. YRMV My wife and I were just amazed at what took place from a little conversation with an old high school friend. At a party in Seal Beach to a full on rocking concert with ring side seats just steps away from the performers made the moment one lasting event... Thanks,R…
