Jud Larson and Rodger Ward leading the field of the 1956 Hoosier 100. Jud Larson introduced himself to Champ car fans by setting a New Track Record in John Zink's car and he led the first 71 laps before being passed by the "Arizona Cowboy" Jimmy Bryan in the Al Dean car wrenched by Clint Brawner. Jimmy Bryan would go on to win the 1956 Hoosier 100 followed by Pat O'Conner, Rodger Ward, and Jud Larson. Bill Dunn driver on the nice #81, red and white #4 Ray Lee Goodwin. This was at Plant Field back in the 60's. Henry Jacoby was from Franklin, PA. Tri-City Speedway near Franklin was his home track, but he traveled a lot. The #4 was called the Little Jewel. This is a great and historic picture of the drivers at the IMCA Winter Nationals at Plant Field in Tampa Florida. Don Branson won a USAC Sprint car race on June 21, 1959 and also won a USAC Midget race at Terre Haute and Tommy Hinnershitz won a USAC Sprint car race at Terre Haute in 1958. Sorry, you are right. Totally forgot about the older series. I picked up the 1949 series last time my daughter dragged me to Comicon in Novi Mich. last year. Not exactly an Oscar worth performance.
