I read everyone’s response to what I said and here’s how they worked for our family. ON ONE EVER DRANK ANY WATER FROM ONE. They were soaked on the outside they filled and put in the air flow to radiator and continued to sweat water into the air stream to assist in cooling in the desert. There were called “Desert Bags”. On that Buick hanging in the grille area and sweating into the air path to the radiator would help in cooling. I should have said “off center”. When we would travel thru the desert in the summer my dad would have two sweating bags on the outside edge of our 55 or 56 Ford grilles in the air path to the air vents feeding the car interior. With the bags sweating and vents open and traveling 60 mph if was aiding in cooling our family off while driving. The rear windows were slightly open for flow thru ventilation of cooler air. This was no BS. It worked fine for our Ca to Minnesota trips in car with no AC. I still have one of the bags. The front side of bags would dry out but the backs never did. When we bought gas it was my brothers and my job to fill the bags and soak them with service station water.
