Some vintage photos of Los Angeles City Fire apparatus, prior to the mid 1960's...

Crown Firecoach. The LAFD purchased their first fire engine from Crown in 1953. Since the company was located in Los Angeles, it just made sense, and they purchased hundreds more from Crown, in various configurations.

1950's era, Segrave Ladder Truck. Because of L.A's mild weather, most of the early apparatus had open cabs.

    A Ward LaFrance pumper.
    fd4.jpg
LAFD's Heavy Utility wrecker on a Mack chassis.
    fd5.jpg
A One Two punch. A 1937 America Lafrance Duplex Pumper (dual engines, and dual pumps), and a 1937 Segrave hose wagon.
    fd6.jpg
Like many big city fire departments, the LAFD shops put together many unique apparatus.

A duplicate of the One Two punch, built in the mid 1960's. The Hose Wagon carried mostly 2 1/2" hose in the cross lays, and 3 1/2" supply lines in the back. The pumper had a 2000 GPM pump. Apparatus like this always ran as a pair.
