The day a Pontiac Tempest crushed the Ferraris and Corvettes. The car was far from stock. It had 421 cubes of dual 4 bbl. NASCAR power, aluminum hood, trunk and doors, and weighed 3200 pounds. It had two two-speed Pontiac Tempest Torque transmissions geared to run as a four speed. It had no torque converter and need a clutch to get going from a dead stop. After the race, the car was quietly purchased by Mercedes-Benz and taken to Germany. It was never seen again.
