    Was the 312 a mid year option? My father bought a new 56 Ford with a 292...The car was p***ed down to my sister and then to me...The owner's manual listed the 292 has the. biggest engine. I think the standard trans engine had around 198 hp and the auto 202 hp...

    Hey 302GMC, any chance you were a BT in navy? I ask because rate symbol in this picture looks to be of boiler technician. Coincidentally I was a BT in mid 60’s on an undated WWII destroyer (DD), which looks to be same pictured in your avatar.

    Sure was ... DD808 out of San Diego '64 - '67. Smooth arm 2nd with an at***ude ...

    Well …… Hello there fellow “Snipe” ,I was in ’64-’68 and a BT on DD818 out of Norfolk, VA ’64-’66.

    Sometime in January the 312’s showed up in the full sized car I’ve heard and read somewhere. Our new 56 Vic had the 292 also which over the years proved to be very good. The early 312 blocks did have some problems which were remedied by 57.
