    I did know Cad flatheads exhaust came out of the block under the head. I thought they were all on top.

    You may be right. I wonder if it's a Lincoln flathead...

    The first Lincoln flathead V8 appeared in 1949, those heads are center outlet 1938-‘48 style. Isn’t that a typical Ford engine?
