    Hello,
    The top photo is/was taken at a different point than the one below. Close, but not on the exact same place. But, the key thing is that one shows cars coming at you and the other the cars are going away,

    The early building of the freeway through Downtown Los Angeles allowed cars to use the freeway until the other side was open. Then the traffic would have been in place the correct way. Coming AND Going...

    It is an interesting comparison. Also, near that location is the Old Brew 102 factory.

  23. I got a question for all the shutterbugs ( photographers that is) . Is it just me or does this picture look like a modern photo taken in black and white?

  28. I don't remember "Toyland" but in the '50s and early '60s, G I Joe's was a favorite place to go and peruse all the cool surplus stuff. I worked for a gentleman who knew the founder of G I Joe's who told him that as the surplus availability dwindled and died up, the store became less and less fun. He didn't like the standard retail business. Who could blame him, after all, it wasn't every store on the block where you could find old fatigues, military gas cans, aircraft gauges and tank periscopes. I sure miss that old stuff!
