Postcard featuring the exterior of Willard's Restaurant. "Top o'the Hill" is visible at the top of the postcard. The large "Willard's" sign also reads "Far-famed chicken-steak dinners." Many people stand near the entrance, and automobiles have crowded the parking lot and all sidewalks. The postcard reads at bottom: "No, we are not giving something away-it's only the response to the call of Willard's dinner bell." The address is listed at 9625 Pico Blvd., in Los Angeles, and the phone number is OXford 2296. The postcard also asks "Have you tried the New Willard's, corner Los Feliz and Hillhurst?" The flip side reads "Private Mailing Card," and asks patrons to rate their Willard's dinner. Circa 1920s.
Hello, Despite what a lot of people have against convertibles and security, there is a reason for the abundance of them still being made and on the road. Perhaps, it is the weather in So Cal, the proliferation of “wind in your hair,” the Hollywood TV shows and movies depicting palm trees and a convertible going down the road, or just girls wanting to be outside, moving from point A to point B in the sun. Whatever it is, there is no denying that women, just like convertibles. For men, the open air driving a convertible seems to have a different connotation and the alternative has always been called a hot rod “roadster.” Not too many men driving a convertible despite the abundance of the different models from simple cars to high dollar sporty dealers. Malibu Surfrider Beach Point PCH parking area. The Gidget movie shows what her (Kathy Kohner’s) life was as a teenager growing up surfing in Malibu and the surrounding areas. The photo was taken on Pacific Coast Highway, right in front of the world famous, Surfrider Beach at Malibu Point. These spots are the premium. It took us many times to figure out when to get there from Long Beach, for the pristine Southern Hemisphere waves. We left around 2 a.m. and arrived just before the sun was starting its lighter sky viewing. But, once there, it was open the doors between surf sessions for the best seats in the house. (besides riding those great waves) Kathy Kohner, real life, “Gidget” and her Buick convertible surf transportation… Jnaki Despite the cute, non surfing movie star, everyone loved the movie and the storyline. So, there is that. But, today, the Malibu Colony has a lot of Hollywood actors and celebrities that can actually surf and they have fun paddling out in cold water anytime they get a chance. My wife's mom was a small woman also driving around in a Buick Convertible as her own car when they were living in Pacoima, CA back in the 1950s. She was small, but could handle that big convertible well, although she did not surf. She fell into that "women and convertibles" theory back in the 1950s. Independence leads to great purchases!!! The family had two cars, a 35 Ford Coupe and a two door 50 Chevy sedan. But, for some reason, probably of newfound individuality, my wife’s mom bought her own 1947 Buick Convertible. Her daughter (my wife) still wants a convertible, all of these years later, but has settled on a cool, high horsepower, fast, great sounding, AWD sporty station wagon, during those rain or shine weather days...
