I spent a lot of time in my Grandmothers third floor tenement apartment like the ones pictured in the background. I used go to the communal cellar of the building and pump kerosene into a container from a 55 gallon drum and bring it up to the third floor for her kitchen stove which also heated the kitchen. Again thanks for the Holyoke memories Hemidav
Officially it was Garlits in August 1964 at Great Meadows, NJ. I have read accounts that both the Greek and Ivo claimed to hit 200mph first but the records are suspect due to the timing equipment used and it wasn’t at a sanctioned event. A lot of records were falling fast around that time and a lot of claims along the way.
