Hello, As we all know, Sears is no longer… but in their heyday, they stocked almost all of the quality name brand tools one could wish for. The tool section was a destination over the local hardware store. Mainly due to the Craftsman tool line of products. “Guaranteed for life…” it sold tons of tools due to that particular slogan. Over the long history of Craftsman tools used, I had an original flat blade screw driver and it was showing wear and tear. Wear from 1958 all the way to 1999. When I was trying to use the flat blade screwdriver, it just would not work as well. It had some small dents and chips on the blade. Usually, we just chuck them away and/or use them for a smaller chisel. But this time I decided to see if “Guaranteed for life” worked. A 41 year old screwdriver used from home repairs to hot rod builds to more home repairs and construction projects for our toddler to older son. It had seen its work place and for me seen its days. I was tempted to go to the neighborhood hardware store and just get another brand of screwdriver. Old memories and habits die hard. I took it to the local Sears Store a few miles away and went to the tool department. They did not know me from the senior citizens who frequent the store and auto repair department next door. But, as the “Guaranteed for life” warranty pays off, the teenage service person in the tool section said… “Excuse me, sir, I will get one for you.” And, off he went to get me a new Craftsman matching screwdriver as a “Guaranteed for life” replacement. Yes! Jnaki As I drove out of the parking lot, the next door building was full of customers with their cars in all stages of repair, service or getting new tires. All in the convenience of being in the neighborhood and fully accessible, guaranteed work. (and tools, too… ) As many as there are hot rod guys/girls who do their own repair/tune/do diagnosis on their own vehicles, there are 1000s of folks who rely on places like the old Sears Auto Shops. It is/was and all in one place for car service. As history goes, this Sears Location is in its final stages of preparation for being converted to an open air shopping arena. (replacing the old indoor mall shops) The main Sears Building and Tire/Service buildings are gone. With the inclusion of other stores and businesses, the new build will match the living quarters of the upstairs apartments and condominiums. A new way to live, shop and possibly work all in one location… YRMV
