Hello, In August 1964, Hollywood Bowl was the place to be for the beginning of the British invasion in So Cal. “With the Righteous Brothers and Jackie DeShannon as opening acts and 18,700 screaming fans in the audience, the Beatles 1964 concert became the benchmark for rock & roll at the Bowl.” Who? Despite the So Cal connection with the Righteous Brothers, no one remembers who opened for the Beatles. Or, the Beatles arrival was so important, that those lead-in groups/singers did not have a chance. My wife, her sister, brother and two good friends from their neighborhood, all went to the same backrow seats and had the time of their lives. Although, The Beatles were supposed to be on stage… the sight of 4 little dots from the far way seats was daunting. But, the music was loud, the bopping was going on, the screaming was over-powering, after all, it was The Beatles in So Cal. The concert was sold out in three hours. Jnaki My wife still remembers that day and it was the beginning of a different kind of music. Until the mid to late 60’s, when a significant era of rock and roll took over. YRMV
As a radio humper, I don't know jack about aircraft... but I do have stories about Iwakuni. Not HAMB approved.
I never was a Beatles fan but followed Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley to many venues in SoCal. After the split, Bill opened a nightclub in Fountain Valley (Medleys) and sold it in 1993. He sang there many times and my wife and I met him and a lot of other entertainers.
