  14. I love to hear old Brooklyn memories, thanks. I lived/born in East Flatbush. What area were you from. I worked at Gaines Oldsmobile.

    Hello,

From the time our dad took us down the coastline from our Westside of Long Beach house in 1949 in his big, black, Buick 4 door Roadmaster sedan, throughout the early 60s with our long distance surfing/camping road trips, to living in the city, to driving through the city almost weekly to gaining the knowledge of how wonderful the clean white sand can be for a young toddler it is almost a magical place.

The Hotel Laguna is a landmark resort place right on the cliff side and sandy beachfront location. It just happens to be smack in the middle of the most traveled highway and crossing intersection in the whole coastline at any time of the year. In the summer, traffic is backed up for many blocks. So, don’t be in a hurry to go anywhere quickly, allow plenty of time for what is to come along the coast highway travels.

But, what the visiting travelers don’t know or have experienced is the community park with green grass and a well-constructed kid’s playground right on the sandy shoreline bordered by the long and winding boardwalk that leads to the northern side of Laguna Beach.

My wife and I learned all about the city and its quirks all during the years traffic patterns, the constant visitors and alternatives to travel in the city locations. When our new, little granddaughter was staying with us for up to 5-6 days a week due to the craziness of her young parents and their new jobs, we looked at it with a new light. our home was a respite from the busy lives of 30 something parents. It was set up to have a small toddler run around and enjoy a carefree life with two active grandparents.

We already went through being young parents and lived to tell stories along the way. But, after a long spell of just being adult parents getting along in “older age” fun and travels was relaxing. The instant moment of being parents, again to a rambunctious granddaughter, was another whole chapter in our lives.

This chapter of our adult lives came with a flourish, hit us with a new direction and we enjoyed being parents again for our granddaughter. The joy of our granddaughter running toward us calling our names to “Pick a girl up” with open arms was totally our new thing of happiness and enjoyment. It was a good thing we were in fairly good shape to bend and pick up a moving target coming at us at speed. Ha!

    Note:

On of our daily places to visit and enjoy for a mid morning snack and activity with our granddaughter was the Hotel Laguna beachfront sand and the cute, almost hidden playground on the boardwalk. It is/was amazing that a few feet away, the always clogged PCH moved at a snails pace almost everyday. But, this place was solitude, beauty, and fun for all of us during our granddaughter's toddler years.

Spending hours of fun play was an enjoyment in its own way. The crashing waves from the blue ocean just steps away, a long white sand beach for walks, this wonderful park for countless hours of play and then the grassy area for a snack or lunch all made it worthwhile being there.
