I'm a veteran sign painter. Tape didn't become commonly used until the sixties. That's an early 50's IH, plus the older guys usually shunned the use.
Hello, When my wife’s family moved to Buena park in 1956, that whole area near Knott’s Berry Farm was wide open compared to today. Huge fields and some small structures, like a small neighborhood grocery store, tourist attractions after folks went to Knott’s Berry Farm and several old/new restaurants. But, it is not the same feeling today as it was back then. When we were dating, we did go to Arnold’s in Buena Park. Mainly due to missing old cafeteria style food that I remember from elementary school to high school. But during our teenage years, there was also an Arnold’s in Bixby Knolls and that was the cafeteria style that was in our cruising grounds. It opened in 1951. (now closed) If we all wanted to experience a different kind of diner, this was it. Comfort foods a few steps higher than our high school cafeteria lines and food. Jnaki Although, the Bixby Knolls version was right in the middle of the teenage cruising area, it was not the favorite place over the two drive-in hamburger places with tons of hot rods and cruisers. By the time my wife (dating at the time) wanted to go somewhere different near her Buena Park house, we made the circuit of several close restaurants and Arnold’s was one of them. Again, comfort food as a different choice than barbequed steak or chicken. YRMV Bixby Knolls Arnold’s Closed in 2010
