@Sky Six Hello, We met some interesting people from El Segundo a long time ago. Back then, they were good surfers who lived near the beach. On our forays into the Los Angeles South Bay surfing trips, we surfed various places, where the locals were always out enjoying the long sandy coastline of this portion of So Cal. But, jump up many years later, and the small city had other interests for all of us. The Automotive Driving Museum as it was originally called and now, The Zimmerman ADM. (the original collection of cars belonged to Stanley Zimmerman) Jnaki But, we hot rod/drag racing enthusiast saw it as a place for the annual gathering of the Gas Coupes and Sedans From the vast So Cal history. The local So Cal hot rod/drag race folks used to bring out their versions from the late 50s to the 60s and show case what the Gas Coupes/Sedan Classes used to look like on Saturdays at the drags. Not only did the hot rod/drag race folks show up in numbers, but inside, the museum had a nice collection of Gas Coupes and Sedan drag racing films. Plus, the collection of films of all racers from 58 to 64 era at Lion’s Dragstrip. Note: The cars were lined up for a mini show and upon the closing of the event, started the always favorite “drive away” show. Rumbling motors, wide tires rolling across the street and driveway to the connecting city street for the hot rod/drag race builds “going away present” for all those in attendance. and on You Tube. Some were outstanding versions of rumbling cars. Others were not so much as they drove away back home… The museum/car collection is half way between the 405 Freeway and the Pacific Ocean, near the LAX Airport to the North. If you are on the Highway 1 roadway, you drive right by the location upon entering El Segundo from the airport crossing. In 2014 the Automobile Driving Museum (ADM) hosted their first ever “Tribute to Gassers” event. With much success and popular demand, the museum is proud to bring back “Tribute to Gassers II – LEGENDS” exhibit. As a means to keep spirit and interest in old cars up with the new folks and old geezers, they have "drive around in old cars" days, plus the monthly cars/coffee events. And they even allow rentals of historic cars as well as renting out the facilities for gatherings or parties. NOTE 2: As far as those old friends from El Segundo, well they are probably as old as we are and the place still has a memory of those good old times. My wife and I have driven up there countless times during our sailing days. The coastal drive up the beach towns is so much better than driving on the 405 Freeway past the always crowded LAX airport area North or South. Then the huge Marina Del Rey Marina/Harbor is always a welcome sight. And the sailing out in the water going up to Malibu/Santa Monica Coastal Areas is one of the nicest days spent out in the ocean.
