    Hello,

This was a sight we usually saw rolling up our Westside of Long Beach streets to cater to the housewives and kids waiting in the morning hours. Most of the community wives did not drive and could not get to the grocery store that was a long way away. So, the rolling vegetable and supplies guy had a locked in business with the non-driving wives just waiting on every block.

But, not only did he have to be sharp in business, he had to make sure his stuff, of vegetables were fresh as possible and his other items also had to be fresh and not weeks old. Those wives were stuck in their homes due to not driving, but they had specific tastes and abilities for great fresh meals daily. So, the for sale items had to meet the quality required. Our mom was very specific as to what she bought.

What about today? Custom vegetable/parts/special delivery items still exist in their now, custom truck form.

This custom vegetable sales truck is one of a few left in the US, according to the builder. Nicely done in modern looks, but still keeping it build specific.

It certainly would have looked outstanding in our old Westside of Long Beach neighborhood at the time. But, those vegetable/fresh fish delivery side opening trucks were daily work trucks and we all know the condition those can get with constant use and activity surrounding the job at hand. Let alone, gobs of housewives leaning in to get the best produce and the freshest fish bar none... YRMV

Prior to moving to Orange County, our neighborhood in East L.A. had a milk truck, a produce truck, a fish truck, and a Helms Bakery truck, plus a Good Humor truck...
It beats the hell out of McDonalds.
