A V8 Corvair would have also needed disc brakes on all 4 corners.

Regarding the need for disc brakes on a V8 Corvair.

The rear brakes on a regular Corvair are the same brakes used on the front of a Chevelle and other BOP counterparts of the Chevelle.
The front brakes of the Corvair are the same as the the rear brakes of the Chevelle etc.
The Corvair had plenty of stopping power especially given the fact it weighs much less than a Chevelle etc......

Now of course there are disc brake conversions for the Corvair, really needed only for extreme use like racing.

    Hello,

My Westside of Long Beach next door neighbor bought a new 1960 Corvair 4 door sedan. It was the same funky plain blue color. He wanted a larger 60 Chevy Impala 4 door hardtop, but, every day use, money saved and availability were the keys to ending up with a 4 door Corvair. He still had his dream of owning a custom car. Several of his older friends had custom full size Chevy sedans and he wanted to do something within his reach to his new purchase.

So, I remember talking about doing something, like cutting out the post and creating a one of a kind 4 door hardtop Corvair. We had no idea in mechanics at the time and it looked like a job we could do for a true custom creation. He liked the 60 Lincoln Continental 4 door convertible door idea and wanted to do the same thing to his Corvair sedan. It seemed simple enough to cut out the posts and secure the opening doors. But, the fit and finish was probably beyond our experiences…

Every time he saw our 58 Impala sitting in the driveway with the windows rolled down, he kept thinking he really wanted to cut that post and modify the opening for a custom hardtop, 4 door Corvair sedan. It would have been a one of a kind model, that is for sure… A certain “A” grade for special projects in the high school Automotives Class, for sure.

Then, he got a better paying job and now his sights were set on a larger Chevy 4 door hardtop already waiting for his choice of colors and engine power from the factory. And a 4 door hardtop to boot! YRMV
